Capital pilot and cyno alt on same account

I really want to get myself into a capital ship, but since I don't want to pay for 2 accounts I need a solution for the cyno. Friends are not my option as I want to be able to move myself aswell.

I'm currently thinking about getting a cyno alt set up on my same account. I know you can only log in 1 character at a time, but when you put a cyno up, you're stuck in place for a couple minutes. Can't I just exit the game (so just close it) and then reopen in, logging in my capital pilot? My cyno alt should still be stuck out there, allowing me to lock on and jump to it with my capital.

Anyone ever tried this and know if this works?

Would not work. While the cyno and cyno ship may still be on field, your JF character would need to be in a fleet with the Cyno character in order to jump to it, an impossible feat if both characters are not simultaneously logged in.

You either have to have a friend light one or bite the bullet on a second account if you only trust yourself to do it.

Yeah, wouldn't work.

In any case, when moving a capital you might want to keep paying attention to the cyno's system and immediate surroundings up until you jump.

Even if you're jumping on station*, there's still the small chance that someone will pop your cyno ship just as you're jumping; that would be uncool as your cap would end up in a random location in system.


*In this case, also make sure you use good cyno spots: this is a must-read.

The above advice is correct, although the mechanism may not be not fully explained. It is possible for both characters to join the same fleet, just not at the same time. When you light the cyno and then quit the cyno-character that character automatically drops fleet.

I run a number of jump-drive using characters and have over a dozen cyno-capable support folk (myself included). My main non-aligned cyno character, providing logistics access between my nullsec home and Jita, is an alt on my main account … which has no jump-drive capable characters on it. I do find myself juggling cyno characters depending on where I’m going and which character is going there. In keeping with the whole spreadsheets-in-space ethos I keep a list of where each of those characters have jumpclones and or cyno-ships.

If you’re sticking with one account then you’re going to rely on friends for your cynos. Even if you planto use cyno-generators (not a good idea for routine ops) then you’d be even dumber to do so without having some eyes in your destination system … and a triple-webber alt helps bigtime to get my big-ships instantly into warp.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Having alts is so lame and if people only realised that CCP were coercing people to have multiple accounts due to mechanics like this im sure they would all quit.

Thats what i heard anyway.

Gates might actually be an option since they are introducing a capital-sized MWD. Travel-fit + cloak + MWD.

good luck with solo capitals, gates will never be a good way to travel with a capital, it will never be able to warp within a server tick and you WILL get uncloaked by anything on gate, its just not fast enough.

A scout on a 2nd account is the most worthwhile thing i done in eve

Are you purposely trying to avoid the issue i was talking about? what do you do if your friends are away on a roam or simply nobody can light a cyno?
