Archon for Sansha Null - Sentries or Fighters?

Hi everybody,

I've been looking into getting a ratting carrier (Archon) for Sansha Null space, but I haven't found much updated info out there concerning fits. I suppose that this is probably due to the simplicity of fitting a ratting carrier and of course I could always ask members of my alliance for fits, but I'd like to bring my questions here as well in case they overlook anything.

My main question is: Sentries or Fighters?

Sentries do instantaneous dps. Fighters are about 20 mil/per and do more than double the dps (?) of Sentries, but take time to travel between targets. On the plus side, they can warp so you don't have to pull them in before warping out, which in turn means that you can always stay aligned to station or a POS. Still, I've heard various people in various places saying that if you use anything but Sentries for null ratting you fail. Maybe they were trolling but if true i'm not sure why this is, and would love some clarification.

Thanks

Seriously nobody willing to disclose their preferences? Guess I should move this to S&M?

I don't pilot a carrier but according to what you wrote, I'd say go with the Fighters since they're low priced, do double the DPS and can warp back to you if you have to leave the site.

Hope you get a definite answer to your question.

I don't have any experience with carriers, but I'd imagine so long as you run the sites were everything spawns at the same place you should be good. I think those are mostly forsaken hubs? Not positive which all are good for that. If you're planning on running the other sites, then sentries are probably the way to go.

Yep, Forsaken Hubs are probably the way to go with Fighters, gave a buddy of mine (who also just got a carrier) the same advice earlier this evening and AFAIK he's been getting much better ticks than he was with ring havens.

I appreciate the responses from all of you, but after reading about the upcoming capital changes this afternoon, i'm actually not even sure I want to train for a Carrier anymore. It would be good to get the Fighter skill up in case they divide the skills like they did for BC's a few years back, but aside from that I'm kinda thinking that the extra micro required to use Fighter Squadrons, as well as the warp nerf will make them more trouble than they're worth. But that's just a guess.

What are your thoughts on the Fighter changes in relation to ratting? I'd love to get opinions from people who actually fly them.

I doubt anyone has a good opinion on the fighter changes as nothing past Work in progress has been shared. going to heavily depend on the final numbers, and how effectively they can be controlled.

for now I'd be tempted to say fighters just because with enough drone mods their stats are insane. I haven't personally tested it that way though. my last test involved skynet, and its funny seeing fighters destroying player frigs. I imagine most of that transfers over to a ratting carrier but, drones are weird sometimes.

I used fighters as you can align out and your fighters will return, get a buddy in an ishtar with smaller drones for frigs and cruisers Pirate

What specific system are you going to do this in, and what's your typical timezone? I can help out with advice if you shoot me that info

Last I checked, (few years back) Sisi mirrored your skills in TQ, meaning that if you can't fly a ship in TQ, you can't fly it in Sisi.

Is this not the case?

i might be wrong but every player got each race titan and lvl 5 skills for them so if you can fly a titan then im sure you could maybe fly an archon? or is archon different skills to titans?

Only 1 carrier have racial bonus to fighter DPS per lvl.
It is strange to use slow Fighters on other carriers. Centries better.

With modern mechanics of DDA, 1 Thanatos 5lvl with 4 DDA, 4DCU and 14 Fighters deliver over 3k DPS, up to 50kk/tick on anomalies, but your fitting need to be improved.
Nobody will share it and you have to find your own way to comfort.
