To be honest, I'm not sure what point I'm trying to make. But there must be one in there somewhere.

That is what I thought when I actually read into the model. At first I saw nyx with model and price tag, wtf. But then I read into it. 500 made and two feet long is fairly substantial. Toss in the electronics, that bumps it up.

Polystone is the highest detail cast material I know of. It is extremely fine and puts resin to shame. I am not a big casting collector, but I do gather it is top of the line. The pictures at least allude ro extreme detail. This very well could on a detail and quality level on a grade to high art. That costs money. I wouldnt put down that money without knowing their quality or expectation first hand.

To be fair, I have some expensive collectibles that dont have lights and levitation. To compare, I have an old honds motorcycle where I put $800 of brake rotor on the front. Another has the same for a rear shock and spring. People dont hesitate to spend money if they find value. For an extremely high detail piece of that size with technology inside? Quite probably well worth it for model collectors.

Pretty expensive. I know, been building and selling finished model kits (some even r/ced) for 10+ years.

That's about what i would charge for making 1 unit, with electronics/paintjob.

That company either has really expensive base cost or it's ripping us off.

Been around since the beginning.

What's the comparison of model kit to polystone cast? Also same size and do you have an idea about the cost of the magnets to make it hover?

Edit: Last I looked at something like this it was a $3,500 model with a considerable amount of work done on electronics/lighting and being about the same size, the impression I get here is that the base model without that still costs quite a bit less than the polystone cast, so given equal electronics work I'd expect this to cost more.

That or the pricing on those models was far more out of proportion.

Yes, correct, they said it at the last O7 show.

It's indeed costly, but hey, no one is forcing you to buy. After all, it will be the market to decide if it's worth the price tag, you know, like in EvE online :p

If someone plans to buy one, just tell me where do you live so I can gank the courier delivering it with my tornado!
