Ok, here is the deal. After some months of running missions, and getting a grip of the basics, I wanted to start making some impressions in PvP.
I got invited by a friend and saw that the corp runs mainly on armorsetups (Guardian logi).
So, here is where I need some advice: ATM, I only have semi-decent skills in gallente, but since I know that amarr are also good armorboats, I was thinking about crosstraining to amarr, since the only ship I flew until now was a brutix during our roams. Should I continue gallente and upgrade to Megathron / Talos, or switch to amarr and fly something like the OracleQuestion

If your support skills are well rounded then there's no real reason you couldn't switch to Amarr. Abaddons, Zealots, Legions and others work very well in armour fleets.

Amarr tend to have some of the best fleet ships in the game when it comes to conventional old school POS bash battle ship gangs. Even the Zealot is great for the AB HAC gangs and on the lower end the Harbi works well for smaller low sec style armor gangs. The Oracle also looks like it might be a neat addition however it's not gonna be able to tank like a Harbi.

As for Gallente, most seem to shy away from them in large fleet fights, but there are still effective Mega fits that use rails for the long range sniping stuff.

The best bet is to ask the guys you will be flying with, what they think is best for their gangs. It never hurts to add additional races ships to your skill que, but it's also often nice to be specialized well before moving into the next.

Edit: Argh Stupid forum

Better you go first to the Mega, than check if it's still nothing for you.

Gallente do just fine in armor gangs as previously stated (Megas) . I personally fly Amarr and enjoy the great buffer tank fits along with crystals for ammo ( the lack of buying ammo all the time). I would say train up to the Mega/Domi and get all of your Armor/Gunnery support skills up. Then go for those popular Amarr ships like the Harby and Abaddon which I feel are fun to fly and are generally welcomed by most FC's. Also cross training into Amarr can get you access to higher end Faction BS's like the Bhaalgorn which are amazing in fleets (although you WILL get primaried as I often do in mine!) Like I said though all support skills are important to fly any ship successfully.

I would agree with the posts above, having missioned mined etc for ages I joined a corp that do PvP. It will depend a lot on the style of play the PvP is, if it's large fleet stuff then Amarr certainly have ships that are used a lot. If, like my corp, it's mainly small, usually 10-15 - roams in low and null, the tendency is to fit for short range (with us) and so gallente ships are used by people with varying effect Ugh - personally I think this is mainly due to skill (not SP) rather than the ship type.

Saying that if you are new to PvP and the corp have set ups they recommend there is a reson for that, so fit that style and ask the FC when you're fitting your ship what they expect of you, is your fit ok, what style they will be playing.

Just that I once went out in an armour 'cane with autos (what my PvP character could fly well) and everyone else was pretty much fitted for range with shield.....guess who was bait ship Lol

But - just fly what you can easily afford to lose and you will have fun - once you get used to the adrenaline rush and are so busy trying to work out WTF is going on that you forget to overload your racks and send out dromes Big smile - but it gets easier!
