I remember playing some of those strategic/tactical games back in the day.
Panzer General was the first, it was very combat oriented, it was already an old game when I started playing it. Then I remember playing something also old, Master of Orion 2, also oldie goodie.

I miss something like that in planetary interaction. Rather than clickfest, I would like it more competitive, like in true eXplore, eXpand, eXploit and eXterminate (4X) games.
Actually OGame was kind of a browser game that when adapted to sending fleets to other players planetary outposts to fight on planet surface would make great gameplay for Planetary interaction. But balancing it would be probably hard and would have to involve CONCORD at some point, as the highest instance giving laws that would have to be obeyed.
