The rain started yesterday just after lunch. The lightning kicked off around 1600. By 2000 the rain had increased so it was louder on the window than the fan on my MacPro. The lightning flashes started to really come fast around then too. Around 2200 the rain intensity seemed to double and it sounded like I had artillery going off in the back yard. My son had gone out with friends, he got home around midnight and reported the water at the curb by the driveway was almost knee deep. At 0115 my phone beeped with a flash food warning. I went into the garage and opened the door to look outside and saw my daughter's Jeep parked in the street. The water was 3/4 up the wheels. I woke her and suggested she pull it into the driveway. She did, but reported there was about 1/2" (12mm) of water inside over the floorboards. She pulled up to the back of my car to where her plate frame was on my back bumper.

This morning her car won't run, apparently her exhaust was submerged when she started it to move it and sucked some water in. She needs it towed. I can't get out with my car. Tried to talk to her about when it's getting towed and if she's called her insurance yet, but she went off on a "I can't afford the deductible.. I can't afford... yada yada" getting all emotional and ending with "can we just not talk about this right now?"

Sure, but I really would like to go get some lunch... :/

It's still raining and the flash flood warning has been extended until 1300 today. Might get extended again.

Too much cement and asphalt dont allow water to soak down into the soil.
The infrastructure is not capable.
They alow building on frequently or potentially flooded areas.
Sue the city council.

No basis for a suit. It's understood that public ROWs are part of the drainage system, the below ground pipes are only designed to carry a 10 year rain event. Parking in the street is at one's own risk, with applicable auto insurance v. flooding recommended. The Houston public works dept. has long (like 50 years) had a requirement in place that new development has to limit the rate of runoff to calculated pre-development values. The company I worked at for over 13 years usually designed to reduce runoff rates post development by 15% to 25% through extra detention facilities. City of Houston permitting dept is very very strict on design aspects of all new development.

Dad (exclaiming in astonishment): WHAT?! Did you say 50? What can't you do with a 40? Take these 30 dollars.
Son (grinning): Haha! I scammed you,I only needed 10 dollars.
Dad (with amusement): Oh,if the money wasn't fake,I was going to get scammed then.

"Yes, sir, your wife is here"
"My children! Are they here?"
"Yes, mister, your children are here too"
"And my siblings, have they come too?"
"Yes sir, your siblings, and your nephews and everyone you love, they all have gathered here to show you their love"

Hello LAGL,

Hope everyone is good, I'm alive and looking for another job .................... once again.

The company I've been working with for the past year doing QC Inspection says I'm still employed but just don't have any work available and don't know when I'll be put back to work, I hate non union companies.

Really sux, guess I'm gonna have to go back on tools and do some travel jobs with the Steamfitters union.

Oh well, gotta do what you gotta do, right?

Some tips for teaching the young ones to Internet:

- be critic. Internet is full of lies.
- be respectful. There's real people on the other side.
- be careful. Internet rarely loses information and never forgets it.
- you're not anonymous. If someone wants you, they will get you.
- nothing is free. If you don't know what you're paying, then likely you're selling yourself.

One last tip for parents: there are no "digital natives". Child learn easily how to use interfaces that where designed so even a child could learn them, but most young ones are completely lost without a button to touch and get bacon. Experience and practice are the real difference between "digital inmigrants" and "digital natives", and chances are that you already are more experienced than the average "digital native", so practice a lot.

No joke. The University of Californa at Davis spent around $250,000 on PR firms trying to get pictures like this to go away, and yet its still on the first page of of results for a google image search.
