Blood Raider Gauntlets or On the futility of zeal

As of recently, we've noticed Blood Raiders have started amassing their pocket forces in so called Gauntlets, popping up in low security areas (even outside of Bleak Lands).

I've single handedly ( and without anything even close to an effort ) destroyed a couple of them, finding little hints to their purpose, activity or... anything at all, besides a SKIN for a Blood Raider Abaddon and a booster - one that our Salvation Angel R&D people are already at. It seems to be some kind of a cerebral accelerant at a first glance, and time will tell if our Salvies will manage to reverse engineer something else from it.

The point of this post however is trying to figure out what these Gauntlets are for - we've all heard about the attacks in the Bleak Lands, but I would've expected a task force attacking a planet wouldn't consist of such horribly equipped and trained units.

Are Blood Raiders really this desperate?

In any case, I'd like to announce we'll continue clearing out these so-called Gauntlets in areas of Angel interest. If anyone has any idea how is this connected to recent Bleak Lands events, or any sense of logic or reason, please do discuss below. Maybe there is some to be found, after all. Until then, I'll suppose this is the a rock bottom to which depths blind zeal sinks a fanatic.

Agreed. Cultists in their fanaticism disregard all norms of professionalism.

They've encroached even high-security space. I found one such conglomeration in a 0.5 system. I was able to retrieve a previously unknown booster. Research results pending examination.

Personally, I'm all the happy to destroy these installations but I won't be looking to see what these boosters do. I shall be consigning any I aquire to the nearest star's surface.

After connecting what appeared to be an advanced version of the booster to my central nervous system... it appears to do nothing at all. No positive or negative effect in functions of any kind are observed so far.

I wonder if these boosters are too expensive... I could use a few, for research purposes of course!

Leo i believe while the Empire is in a state or disarray after the drifter forces killed the Empress Jamyl I the Blood Raiders have used this event to launch a tactical attack on the Empire

Be wary of using those boosters.
It may be that the Raiders are using capsuleers as unwitting, if overeager, test subjects in some sort of experiment.

I have already begun clearing their scouting parties out of the Reach and The Spire. As usual they offer a pathetic resistance.

This is the IGS you are posting on.

People here have a tendency to throw caution to the winds, when dealing with unknown technologies, particularly ones that interface with the brain.

Found a mysterious implant, in a shipwreck ? No clue what it does ? Well, let's just stick it into your brain and see what it does ?!

And that's how they get you.

"Ooo, a wibbly doodah, that does something!" says a capsuleer.

They plug it into their brain, and then...

BLAMMO!

And that's how they get you !

You are correct Lan.

Though I believe they had plans for this already in place. We've been expecting a push in Khanid for some time now. If anything, the Drifters, coupled with the political destabilization of the Empire, is why they've started this push in the Bleaks instead of Khanid.

WELL, MAYBE THAT WAS THE POINT, HMMM ?

People say "don't touch that slaver hound, you don't know where it's been"

But when it comes to YOUR BRAIN, people say "Sure, I'll connect this thing, that I don't know what it does, or where it came from, or what BRAIN CONTROLLING SPYWARE is on it, to my actual brain that keeps my mind from leaking all over the floor"

And that's how the aliens will get you.

If actual freaking aliens appeared, and asked you to insert god knows what into your brain, capsuleers would be all "I'll take TWO!"
And then another capsuleer would be all "2? I'll take 9!"
And then the fighting starts.

All over the right to shove unknown things into your brain.

Maybe they're controlling your brain, so you only think they're doing nothing.

Ever think of that ?

No, I didn't think so.

Respectfully, I think they mostly say "don't touch that slaver hound if you can't afford a new arm."

... not that I disagree with the point. We do seem to have a lot of people who don't mind plugging strange things into their rigs, if not straight into their brains. That's maybe sort of understandable: most of our technology is stuff we recovered and reverse-engineered from somewhere else and we don't fully understand even now.

Still, with the likes of Kuvakei about, it doesn't seem very clever, or even, really, brave. Mostly, just reckless.
