Eh, I wouldn't say that. Dinosaurs were the dominant group for over 100m years - EvE always survived by knowing how to thrive in its small niche. EvE dies when it forgets that it is a niche game, and tries to be adapted to both the fast-food era of freemium smartphone games and the old school era of PC subscription games..


Realtalk. EVE was based on a very simple formula and basic philosophy that was stuck to despite constant calls to change this and appeal to that, and when they stick to the formula it gave constant growth over a very long period of time in spite of a whole heap of totally bizarre and broken mechanics and a thinly veiled "don't like it, **** off" attitude from devs which would cause reddit people to have an absolute fit with today's expectations of devs. It only had trouble when it deviated from this simple formula.
