You say eve is probably the last mmo left with a subscription based payment model?
even wow - mentioned here very often - is still a subscription based game, even after all this years. (Introduced WoW Token is like plex) - Final Fantasy XIV is a subscription based mmo.

Some numbers i found:
http://www.alistdaily.com/assets/alist-archived/2015/03/east-west-revenue-breakdown-for-top-mmos.jpg

if they are correct and the payment models of these games are indeed similar - How the *** is TERA or Lineage or Aoin able to get a that much higher revenue than eve?

You can say opinions you are not sharing, because you see nothing valuable in them out of your individual perspective, are invalid or just senseless noise and should go away. but then the same applies to your opinion. Prejudice may turn around and bite - you see this? You are also contradicting yourself, showing a slight lack of profound information, too - like myself. :) objectivity is nothing we can achive. So the discurse between the different views is needed to mold them into something that fits the maximum proportion of the community best. The sum of different opinions is closer to the "truth" than one of them alone. Food for thought ;)

Also why should i, as a player, who has choosen to play a specific game because of the attraction it has to me, "wind my neck around it" when it gets reconfigured, changed, and exploited to a point in the future, where it´s similar to games i´m trying to avoid as hell? One of the reason i am here in the first place :) If you think that´s stupidity on my side, well feel free to call me that.

There's 3 types of people who say that Sub based MMO's are dead:

- poor fcks who want a game to be free while not realising what kind of implications that would have

- managers who are paid based on short term income gains, they want to cash in for the short period the cvash grab works before the game is bled dry. And then they "move on, to find new challenges"

- DEVS who go "holy balls, we need money NOW! Quick, how to make money? What, item shop you say? DEAL!"

None of those are people who should be listened to.

I for one welcome our new Aria overlords.
Aura needs some company, poor girl.
They should make Aria gold skinned.

Nb: Having written a few press releases myself, that one is expertly filled with meaningless testimonial buzzphrases. Five paragraphs to say "our middleware company has a working relationship with this game company". Sigh. Investors.

Do not actively tank my patience.

i´m not about making senseless noise. Also have interest that the game is taking the "best" route to go forward. And thats all. we can identitfy several actions in the past that lead to specific reactions. maybe they shouldn´t be carried out again in similar ways, because there´s a high chance resulting effects will be alike. Look at them and learn something of the past. ccp is not acting in the best interest of eve alone, they are trying to act in the best interest of ccp as a company according to economic decissions, detached from the necessities for good gameplay. to develop different products, sell them out, and make the company able to outlive it´s products. There´s nothing wrong with it, but these directions may contradict each other sometimes. It´s about balance... it may be economicaly the best for a company to destroy and sell out one of it´s products for an additional, short injection of money - which in return is the worst possible scenario for the product!

Thanks for taking the time to write out a longer response.

It's evident from the comments on both sides that most people are genuinely concerned about CCP's direction for solid reasons, because they actually don't want EvE to suffer and they want to see CCP succeed. But there are a minority who are transparently using topics to attack CCP, and some of it looks like projection because they might be developers themselves, or are just regurgitating old grudges. Or just want to start a riot. There's also a lot of dogma floating about and resistance to change, and some newer players - who weren't even around for T20 or Incarna - are amongst the most rabid. It's toxic, and it's creating noise that blocks out real feedback, wastes time and poisons the relationship between players and developers in unhelpful ways.

The wider playerbase are starting to push back by pointing out that grrr T20 grrr Incarna grrr MT grrr everything else QQ wahwah just isn't constructive. Neither is attacking EvE developers. CCP seem to have acquired a lot of enemies over the years, but there's actually massive levels of support for CCP and their developers within the community. During Incarna devs were not interracting with the community and the CSM were visibly frustrated. Things are quite different now. Seagull has impressed many with her commitment/leadership and Falcon is a much higher profile figure than previous community managers. It should be evident from the sheer number of evemeets, dev interviews and forum posts that they are massively engaged with the community right now - actually they look to be working round the clock.

But´s thats just the view of one side.

Yeh I deliberately picked that side to make a point, but I can see yours. I'm not posting to contradict, I think there are multiple perspectives. But it is worth sorting out which are useful, constructive or pragmatic.

Actually I agree with all of this, which is why I pushed you to elaborate. Make an argument, back it up with evidence. Yours is as good as mine. But it's probably worth dropping this grrr CCP mentality because it derails the discussion and just promotes these really circular and bitter topics which are of no real value to anyone.

For what it's worth, a constructive suggestion about CCPs other projects might be to ask for a high level roadmap detailing what is going on with Valk, Gunjack, Dust, Legion etc. We're not entitled to it as EvE players, but people are asking, so maybe it's worth putting something out to curtail the rumours and invective. Also, the SP topic is here and it might be worth you writing up your points there (if you haven't already) so they aren't overlooked.

You guys do realize the point of that game was to take Dust 514 as it is now on PS3, uncap the textures so they look prettier, take out many current mechanics and remove the EVE-link entirely, and then release it on PC while still having Dust 514 run on PS3 with the EVE-link in place?

EVE Legion wouldn't have been worth playing, not even for free. Seriously, you want to talk about getting facts straight, watch all the presentations and panels about Project Legion and see exactly how dumb it was.

But but ... i thought with EVE Legion the door in captains quarters will finally open and we can go to casinos and Gallentean strip clubs and transfer our consciousness into super soldiers on planets where we can have Planetside 2-like FPS battles with top-notch graphics and a strong link to the EVE universe. I imagined battles on lava planets, Titan hulls, XXL stations and assaults on Mittanigrad, the giant dark fortress of the evil Emperor.

Cant you just make a joint venture with RSI to make EVE Legion? Send CCP Thor (The Mountain) as negotiator. Then RSI will accept all terms.

WoD, WiS and Legion are all dead roots. Dust is and has been dying ever since FF 2014 when they abandoned PS3. They deserved all the Dust 514 playerbase to leave dust/un-sub for EvE because of their extreme unloyalty.

Dust thread after FF14 when Legionw as announced. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=159617&find=unread

So yeah Legion aint ever coming back since it killed half the dust playerbase.

He is expressing exactly what 90% of the community feels right now.

We feel like you have just executed every single dust player in Iceland right now.

Let me tell an analogy that sums up what's going on.

Player bob has just got a new job, it's a good job, he's happy and likes it. His boss (CCP) dangles that carrot of promotion in front of him for 15+ months and then says " you know what bob, I have a surprise for you, come to my office (iceland) and I'll show you". Now bob, the loyal hardworking worker, thinks it's a promotion as hinted at by his boss for 15 months. He's happy, tells his family, about it and is happy because now he can buy that house he wants to. He shows up to his boss's office ecstatic. Takes 3 steps in the door and hears "you're fired"

Do you know what that feels like ccp? To work for something, wholeheartedly, and loyally strive towards something. Than have it ripped out from underneath you.

That's like telling a 4 year old about Santa.
