Respectfully, Arrendis, she's not wrong, even if she's not entirely right. The State's breeding practices are, shall we say, restrictive, and kind of tightly controlled.

That's not to say that there's no room for love, or that physical intimacy is widely looked at the way Ms. Kim does, but a loving marriage is kind of a happy accident. That's between arranged couples of like bloodline, of course; unauthorized pairings, especially across bloodlines, are a scandal.

Pairings like that aren't so much illegal as heavily frowned on. I'm half-blooded, myself. I'm a capsuleer, so that doesn't matter so much to me, but apparently my antecedent went through a lot because of it. I'm kind of glad I can't remember that. If I weren't a capsuleer, and were living as a corporate citizen in a Caldari city on Achura, someone would have the probably kind of unenviable job of trying to find a match for me.

Maybe the job wouldn't be that hard, though. Mixed blood is disfavored, but pairings are made on the basis of appearance, not blood, and I favor my Achur mother over my Civire father. I don't know quite why they do things this way, but I have a guess.

There are two ethnic Caldari bloodlines: Deteis and Civire. I hear there used to be more. I think the chief executives might be trying to recreate more of the old lines, turn back history by selectively pairing like to like.

Even if they're not, the State's is a planned population, and, by design, very, very traditional. There's not a lot of room for matches that can't produce children.

Of course, also, ordinary Caldari corporate citizens rarely deal with foreigners of any kind. I don't know the details, and don't want to presume too much, but it's quite possible that you met the couples you mentioned largely as a result of them having found a place for themselves on the fringes or wholly outside of Caldari State society.

Rarely fraternize, if ever. The number of ships I own means that most would rarely have work if were on retainer. As such, most crewmembers are hired contractors trough DCM prior to deployment and earn a percentage of all I earn. Exception is with my exploration ships which see regular use. Being in a low power status frequently in hostile space with a small crew complement, socializing helps to keep morale.

A wounded animal does not pursue anyone that has slighted it with the intention to harass.

Rare is the fleet that can harm a capsuleer whom doesn't undock from an Empire station.

As with many clichés, this one needs qualifying. Animals are very diverse, as are humans.

For example, have you ever seen a wounded sheep? They just lie there, bleating pointlessly, until death or the shepherd finds them.

Not every animal is a lion, nor is every man.

But I agree, we should be talking more about the interesting OP. There have been some fascinating opinions in between the diversions.

I try to keep my policies simple:

1. Work time is work time, focus on the job.. which for my in flight crew is keeping myself and everyone else alive.
2. Personal relationships may not exist between crew members of unequal rank, if this situation arises both are dismissed.
3. What you do off duty stays off duty, if it affects your performance or the performance of other crew members you will be dismissed.
