I need a new laptop. I haven't bought one since 2010 and I have no idea as to what's good these days. Just a few requirements though:

-Can run EVE at low settings without the fan kicking into high speed and struggling to keep cool.
-Keyboard that has lighting.
-SSD

I can probably throw $1,000 at it, more or less.

I assume it will come with Windows 8.1. Will I need to wipe it and install Windows 7, or is 8.1 acceptable these days?

Recommendations?

Thanks!

Alienware M14x R2.

Mine has two 250GB SSDs raided, Sandy Bridge Core i7 and a GeForce GT 650M. I adore this laptop; it eats Eve alive.

Dell xps

Can run eve on high settings, can be modded with backlit keyboard and ssd is easy enough to add in, 17" and i7 processor, gt555m 3gig gfx card (can run quite a few different games with good performance).

Screen is really nice and hdmi port so you can use dual extended displays (i think some people can run 2 external displays)

All in all really nice laptop and can be bought refurbished on ebay with a 3 year warranty for pretty cheap

I use an Alienware 14 laptop with the following specs:

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5
CPU: IntelCore i7 2.7 gHz (I think?)
16 GB RAM
1 TB Hard Drive
Not sure about the SDD

This beefy behemoth can run EVE with settings cranked to the max with a glorious average framerate of 100 (check out my channel, Robert Sawyer Games - my videos are available in 60FPS). I can play in huge fleet battles on max settings with over 30 FPS, the lowest being only 20 when battle get really huge (like the B-R5RB scale).

Potent gpu will set you for years of playing eve not sure about ssd and screen size is small for my taste but I bet it can get hooked up to 3 external...it is basicaly mobile desktop.

Would be my choice.
