Being a pirate - Shooting for profit not KM's

Hi All,

I used to be a pirate back in the day with a previous toon (Which I sold...I know I know!!)

I was what I call a 'proper' pirate not just an outlaw pvp'er, I shot people to get either ransoms or cargo ejected. If that wasn't happening then I'd for the kill and pray to the loot fairy. But then killboards started to get in the way and everyone was just worried about the numbers.

So my question is....Is the traditional pirate life now dead in eve? I'm not interested in having a green KB and bragging rights about killing some noob in a bling fit ship in my T1 frig, I want to ransom people, steal their cargo to sell and so forth.

Is this still a thing? I hope so.

It is still a thing, but I think mostly in the form of high sec ganking. The isk is there for the taking though! Pirate

Glad to hear it's still out there.

Personally high sec ganking isn't what I'm going for. Hijacking a mission runner and ransoming the loot or ship is more like it.

For what I'm hoping for sec status isn't much of an issue it about working to get the other player to pay me to leave them alone. In isk or loot. Only when it fails am I going to be looking to kill.

The true piracy nowadays is mission flipping and suspect baiting in highsec. That's where the juicy targets and ransoms are. It is still a thing but for some reason there are no large organized groups doing it systematically, in spite of the fact that a crew supporting each other with logi, boosts, etc can pretty much rake in isk hand over fist in a mission hub without ever having to resort to the indignity of carebearism. Yeah I define a pirate as more than just a -5 or less sec status that looks for fights.

Nothing wrong with being a serial killer in eve though, I was one for a long time myself.

Meow.. I mean Yarrr!

Our corp honors ransoms. Rarely get anything worth ransoming though in place where we live. Sometimes we just ask for joke or to be bait for us if mining. Biggest Ransom I have ever done was jump freighter in stationless system. Caught it in stealth bomber.

Its not space samurai. There is nothing wrong with grief play but the dude is asking how to make a profit from piracy, not tear farm.

I enjoy sending customer-service themed eve mails to my gank targets to fish for tears. They can be very funny, but they net me no ISK. And seeing as how literally nobody here wants you around or gives any type of credit to your shitpoasts, dont come in here and tell ME what C&P is "for".

Very much so.

Profit from piracy is what I'm after not just killing **** and looting. It's more around the ACT of robbing someone like an old age pirate or highwayman that I'm interested in. Not so interested in the tears anymore as I had my cup filleth over from that in my previous life in eve.

Ransoming mission runners who have aggressed your suspect self is a decent source of revenue. Find the popular mission hubs and get to work thereabouts. If you low-ball your ransom demands you'll get more positive results.

If you engage someone who's taking it rather well psychologically you can suggest they get their pod out before their ship goes boom... sometimes they will actually eject and warp off when the ship is still alive, providing you with an opportunity to hijack the now vacant vessel.

KM's are nice and all, so are ransoms, but nothing at all is better than actually driving off with someone else's ship.
It's pure gravy with a blowjob from a midget thrown in just for sparkles and glitter.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

Ransoms generally aren't paid these days. They aren't paid unless the client expects you to honor them, but they usually aren't worth enough to involve a third party (with two exceptions - supercapital ransoms which almost never happen, but if they do they involve a third party; and POS ransoms).

You do get the odd person that pays because they've never had a ransom dishonored before, but it is rare. The stories of people ejecting for a ransom are hilarious (especially as they are almost invariably podded on the spot)

Freighter and T1 hauler ganking basically is the best option available now for taking ISK from people by force, with mission invasion being the backup, but with mission invasion it's usually not about ransom but about the modules you loot from their wreck.

Hmmm.....

It seems as if eve has moved on from what I used to do with ransoms etc. Such a pity that it's just come to a gank and loot mentality now.....

Guess I'll have to do more experimentation before I call it a day though.

It's a prisoner's dilemma situation.

If you ransom someone, it's advantageous to you to be paid and it's also advantageous to you to dishonor the ransom.

EVE players have generally worked out how to optimize this prisoner's dilemma for themselves - don't pay a ransom, and don't honor one.
