What is EVE to you and is it your primary game?

Easy and hard question, whatever you make of it. "What is EVE to you and is it your primary game?"
end: tl;dr
______
EVE to me is a difficult and deep mmo. Something of a dying breed of yesteryear. I really dislike f2p games, no fan of any of them, none. I played some that turned into f2p, left. EVE offers one of the last refuges for oldschool mmo players. What was the PR campaign years back? "EVE never fades". That means to me something that is, but doesn't change yet remains, to no compromise. CCP had a vision, something they have strived to pursue, differently than other games, differently than the latest fad game idea or clone.

Not always the case, there has been confrontation, players vs developers (e.g Jita riots). But out of it, they showed integrity, didn't just blow off the vets and strive for players they didn't have (I can name games that did), it drew me back. I think the game means to them more than just a job, more than just some way to make a big quick profit. I can respect that, and keeps me here. EVE is an art; the art of game development. That just seems something you don't see any longer, beyond the eye candy.

Yeah, my primary game. If I'm not playing EVE(or not subbed), I'm playing nothing. I took some time off late last year and into early this year, I was playing nothing, dealing with irl stuff. If I'm not playing EVE, I'm not playing anything. EVE is first for me, even in my thoughts when not playing, to a degree. It challenges my brain, requires thought and planning, I like that. I play a couple other games, they are challenging too, but when I decide each evening what I'm going to play if anything, EVE comes to mind first in the list.

I'm in it for the money

To me, it's a bunch of friends and it's the only game I play.

A sunk-cost trap like any other mmo with a subscription fee, but it's got some real nifty meta and niche content. I like space.

To me it's a battle of the mind where individual knowledge and level of preparedness determines outcome whether that is straight pvp or just day to day stuff. A place where ignorance and laziness is punished (preferably by me) both on a solo/single level as a small group level. I very much prefer quality over quantity.

This is my main MMO, has been for over a decade, and while I play some other MMOs on the side they're not everlasting and just not as engaging.

I'm going to go with "That thing I blow a sub cost on while playing much more fun games."

It's a game that ticks all the aesthetic boxes. Cool spaceships in a persistent dog-eat-dog universe. Your own drive and skill determine where you'll end up in the pecking order. Play how you want in the sandbox of the stars.

But then actually playing it comes down to WoW circa 2005: The most fun to be had is galloping around Ogrimmar AH for hours while chatting with friends on TS. I mean, I read r/eve and assume that none of the posters are actually subbed unless they have CSMX flair.

It is my main game, by far; has been for most of 7 years.

It has a unique, real-time based training system which means that newer players can *never* catch the older players, no matter how dedicated they may be. Apart from that fatal flaw, it is the best MMO by far. Big smile

I bounce between Eve and League of Legends.

I hate/love League of Legends. The communities between the two games are such polar opposites.

I enjoy the community within Eve, it's quite easy to find nice people, if you make the effort to engage, it is for this reason that I have always had Eve as my anchor for nearly 10 years.

I will probably play WOW when the new patch comes out, but I'll just get burnt out and remember why I only play it for short bursts.

EVE is weird. I pay my subscription a year in advance, then play MAYBE a third of the year. And even though I hardly played at all, I gladly resub for another year. It's a way of life I guess. I wouldn't want to miss being part of this community and this living work of science fiction, but I really should contribute a little more to it.

To me it's my casual MMO, and not my "primary" game. Though "primary" game is hard to nail down since I tend to just play what I fancy at the time. EVE you can play a bit of skill queue online and logon for a bit here and then without having to get into anything too heavy.

Casual entertainment worth paying a sub for. I don't play any other online games at the moment (I dipped a toe in Elite:D but stopped out of boredom). I've never played any other MMO's.

Yeah, my primary game. If I'm not playing EVE(or not subbed), I'm playing nothing. I took some time off late last year and into early this year, I was playing nothing, dealing with irl stuff. Pretty much the same. I have dabbled in other games over the last few years (i sometimes play Star Trek Online for short periods, and I played mechwarrior online briefly because I've been a Battletech fan sine i was 12), and tried a few like War Thunder, Warships, Tanks, League of legends etc.

EVE online has revealed something about me to me: I'm not a gamer anymore. I was as a kid, as a teen, and as a young adult, but now other than a momentary romp every few months to play GTA or Destiny or God of War on my step kids console, I don't care for video games much. I'm not anti-Game, it's just that after 41 years of living I've changed so much that game don't appeal to me like they once did.

I'd rather go out and play paint ball and FEEL something than play some FPS video game. I'd rather grab a football , gather some buddies, drink beer and work up a sweat than pretend I'm some current NFL star on Madden. I have zero need to feel like I'm some epic hero. I AM AN EPIC HERO in real life every time I get a paycheck and feed my family. Games let me immerse myself in another world, I don't need to be immersed in another world, the world I live in is freaking awesome.

But EVE is an exception. Sometimes I'm at work and an EVE thought pops in to my head and I look at a clock to calculate both how long till I go home and what time is it in Iceland (thus EVE) lol. Or like last night, right before bed I started to wonder about how good a navy Drake with FoF missiles, a Gecko and an MJD would be for PVE... Damn it, too late, gotta work overtime tomorrow morning, need sleep, but damn it, FOFGECKODRAKE!

EVE is just somehow different for me and to me than 'games' are. It's like a hobby, sometimes not 'fun' but always deeply interesting.

A game in which I did everything I wanted to do years ago, but try to hang around simply because it's something not to be missed.

Hasn't been my main game in a long time.
