Overseer ship =/= overseer wreck?

Had this happen to me twice last night, and it's never occurred before so I'm not sure what's going on. In two plexes I scanned down, I had overseer ships pop. Upon destroying them...they left non-overseer wrecks, named with different vessel names of the same ship size. Inside...no overseer loot either.

Is this normal? A bug?

The ships named 'overseer' in unrated sites (Hideout, Lookout, Watch, Vigil) are not the same as Overseers in DED plexes. The unrated 'overseers' are simply renamed trigger ships, not DED Overseers. It's a confusing naming convention though, they should be called something different (this question gets asked a lot).

These are not the overseers you're looking for...

Ahah. That is a poor naming convention.

Thanks for the info.

You can turn on the 'type' column on your overview - if they're renamed standard ships you'll see the true name (the one that will show on the wreck) in this column. That way it's easy to tell when you're dealing with a renamed classic ship (some of which have modified loot tables so can drop faction lewts) or with an 'overseer' who will leave a t2 wreck.
