Hello and welcome.

You can't kill us all (different time zones, people staying logged off, etc.), but you can kill quite a few.

You can learn a lot about the game from tutorials and guides, and also asking questions here, but to truly be great, you have to 1. dive into the PVP, and 2. find some good veterans to partner with for fights. 2 is difficult, as the tools to find corps and groups of people aren't all that easy to use, and "good" isn't part of the search filters.

You can train everything / anything as far as skills and abilities, so you're not building a character in the "tank, healer, DPS" sense, but rather the capability to perform any role that's interesting to you, with that one character. So sometimes training skills in this game takes as long as building and gearing up several characters in other MMO's. Don't get discouraged.

With apologies to Crosby Stills and Nash:

You who are on the road
Might join with CODE and do lots of fly-bys
or roam solo by yourself
Because the past was just a good-fight.
Teach your children well,
Their father's pod did slowly drift by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh
And know they will burn you.

And don't let anybody tell you that you can't PvP until you have X skillpoints.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Hi new I'm Chainsaw Plankton, welcome to eve \o/

and I'd almost be tempted to hold on to the 300k sp for a while, either that or use them on something a little more goal oriented. Some of those skills are indeed nice to have, some are kinda meh. Although nearly every skill there gets handed out during the career agents.

Eve is easy has a lot of nice videos that should help you get started on your quest of destruction https://www.youtube.com/user/eveiseasy/videos

I'd agree from the perspective of a more experienced player you'd probably be able to make more efficient use of the SP, but a brand new player won't be steered too wrong by most of those skills. It provides a nice rounded template of things most pilots (i.e. people who undock) will need.

IMO YMMV ETC

Big smile

Welcome to Eve and thanks, reading this made me chuckle. Hope you have a long and rewarding career here.

Just remember this game is more of a long term hobby, not a quick flash in the pan / instant gratification game. At first it may seem tough but after learning the game mechanics, you'll gain experience quickly enabling you to hold your own.

By the way, it's refreshing to see your open enthusiasm. Maintaining that type of viewpoint will help you a lot..

Hahaha yes, another bloodthirsty newbro.
love it Big smile

the tutorial agent's give you free stuff so that would be your first call for basic mechanisms,
the important ones are the shooty ones and the scanning ones, probe scanning is a valuable skill in both pve and PvP.

Core skills for fitting, tanking and drones will also do you well .

Also here's some outstanding articles written by my old martini drinking CEO (bookmark those, I still referr back to then the odd time).

Welcome aboard mate.

If you've played other MMOs Eve is not those MMOs. If you can drop any expectations and come to this game with a fresh perspective you'll do fine.

Also a very important point to note. There is no structured PvP in this game. There are no 10 v 10 squad action like most FPSs there are no 3 v 3 areneas or 40 man battlegrounds containing players of all the same level and roughly the same gear score and overly balanced classes.

In Eve a 2 week old pilot in a frigate can kill a 10 year old pilot in a battleship and fair fights don't exist. If you can deal with having to be smarter and having to fight dirtier than the next guy then you'll like it here.

The 350K SP that you are whinning about here is less than five and a half days of training. Certainly not nothing but definitely not enough to cry about. I also say that the experience that you will gain in the next 3 days will be far more valuable than the 2 more days of skill points. But if you want to get all up tight about it play until the 28th and then reroll a new toon for the couple of days worth of training time if that's what you want to do.

You seem genuinely upset about my post. Weird. You should probably relax. I was telling the newbie to use those skill points wisely by placing them into core skills or by just letting CCP do it for them (the reroll option).

not sure where you got "upset" from but I wasn't. Relaxed is actually my default stance. People that know me are typically more concerned with my inability to get excited. However I am flattered by your concern for my well being and thank you for taking the time to calm me. That was very sweet of you.
