Eve Tribune looking for writers

The Eve Tribune is the longest running independent news site for Eve Online and has during its six years in existence published over 200 issues containing over a thousand articles. We have written about every facet of Eve Online. From the new player experience to bitter vet grumblings, industrialist market crunching to an interceptor dogfighting guide. We're also willing to publish much less predictable pieces, like discussions about the philosophy of the souls in clones, original fiction and what food to cook for when you're out on a roam.

We are now looking for writers who want to join us and tell others about their corner of Eve. As a writer for the Eve Tribune you get the opportunity to publish articles to thousands of readers every week, and people will be able to read your articles for years to come. Although we don't require you to be the next Mark Twain, if you'd like to take advantage of it, you'll get the help and directions from our editorial staff so that you can workshop your pieces and refine them for publication. You will also be paid for every article in ISK. The going rate at the moment is 50m ISK/page for the first two written but there's also bonuses to be made for a good job, extensive fact checking, or just plain dull research.

See you at the Tribune

Do you mean stuff like

"If you are raiding on a saturday night and you are single. Its best that you take a long look at your life. Lets discuss the options"

Or

"English people when on a raid have a row of mugs with the teabags already in them. This will save you valuable time when making tea. Alternately you should invest in a thermos flask that can hold several pints of tea and you should also have an ample supply of bacca as running out mid raid is a situation that no one wants to find themselves in".

Or

"There are many types of people you can talk to on ventrillo and although you would cross the road to avoid them in real life we are here to break down the personality types for you. Bonus Article on how to choose your corp/alliance based on ventrillo personality types.

yay, nay or troll

EDIT:

"This is the ultimate nooby guide designed to take you from an ambitious, wide eyed new pilot, overwhelmed by the complexity and detail of EVE. Right through to the ultimate realisation that its not what you thought it would be, but you are addicted to skill points and cannot stop subbing"
I dont normally troll, but when i do i do it on General Discussion.

Yes. I've asked for a culture clash article for years.
Yes.
Oh yeah! Maybe even some phrases for noobs to use in daily conversations so they sound like bitter vets and gain respect Big smile

Will I be turned down because I like to shoot at you guys a lot?

In all seriousness though, I am considering applying for this. It would be a fun way to get more involved in other aspects of EVE and also actually motivate me to work on a new style of writing.

Could you tell me what kind of word limit you have and if you have max and min word counts.

I can only really do cynical/observational as if you want factual then i cant do anything better than tentonhammer. But im not baised.

If you want a culture clash listen to Americans and English on the same ventrillo

Typical British convo on vent "Evening George, fancy a roam later. Sound good, but i want to watch the footie. Ok ill run a few missions and hopefully John will turn up later for a bit of loggie support"

Incert British into American Convo. "Hey Karn nice to see you dude. Hello mate, and please call me George. You've ******* Karn man, Kaarrrn. Fancy kicking some butt in Domain later. Ive got Loggie support here in an hour and Spicer is dual boxing his falcon".

Both are good but totally different and shows hugely in the differences in culture. Americans seem to love the emersion, not roleplay just the Emersion. The British are a bit to stiff upper lipped to do that and think that as adults they should refrain from that sort of colonial behavour (last bit not true)

If you want me to submit an article let me know and give me a time frame. I dont need paying as i have more isk than i know what to do with.

I had to check but we usually do 1000-2000 words. Minimum is 200-ish (depends on the article) Images are always welcome.

Under normal circumstances we do one issue/week so it's Ok to just send it in when you have the time.

Aussies are Criminals.
Kiwis are into Sheep.
Scots are incomprehensible to EVERYONE.
The Welsh are incomprehensible even to the Scots.
Londoners need to learn to pull the Co*k out of their mouth before they key the mike.
The rest of the islanders are at least comprehensible.

Most importantly, much as they all want to pretend otherwise, they're all Limeys and nothing will change that.

True, true. And it's not only accents and slightly different meanings or words, there's also the sayings and idioms that we take for granted.

Something being a Mint.
Something being a red herring.

A lot of people say to me that they can write but isn't sure about what. That isn't a problem because I have tons of ideas just waiting for someone to grab them. Here's a couple of example of things that we (I) would like to do.

  • jEveAsset manager 101
  • Backing up you Eve settings, fittings and overviews
  • Advanced EveMon-ing
  • A history of Xmas gifts from CCP
  • What has CSM really done?
  • Wormholes for beginners
  • Jenny Spitfire (old) vs. Jenny Spitfire (new) Blink
  • Multiboxing and you

As you can see there's a lot of subjects out there that is just waiting for a writer. So if you're a writer without a cause, apply to join Eve Tribune today.
