I got now level 4 in Frigg skill so Scanning became way easier. Scanning skills are all at 3 and main one at 4. Cloacking at 4.
So I plan on training Covert ops first, or at least Frigg 5. Is that good idea, or I better bump scanning skills to 4 first? I dont have much issues with scanning down stuff, but hacking is still an issue. In WH a lot off containers exploded to my face. Do I get Hacking and Archeology to 4 first? Will it help me much or do I just focus on Covert ops?

I haven't done exploration in recent year but here's my two cents for what it's worth. If your scanning skills are poor it usually just takes you longer or getting more / better stuff and keep trying until you get it. If your hacking skills are poor then your loot goes bye bye. So to me hacking and archaeology are more important than scanning skills. Also keep in mind that the containers with better loot tend to be more difficult to hack so with poor skills you are cutting yourself out of the better loot.

Yes it's true that the better sites are also harder to scan but like I already stated you can always go get faction probes or rigs or implants and try again until you get it. Of course the faster you can scan sites down the more you can do so that figures in. I guess it's all just preference.

Also don't forget about: modules, rigs, implants and faction ammo that can help with both scanning and hacking. The sister's launchers are probably too expensive to take into wormholes but the sister's probes are cheapish. The rigs and mods are affordable iirc.

That is actually a very good point. Since I got friggs 4 it became a lot easier to scan sites, plus my skills of actual scanning got better too. Wheres hacking is my weak point and I blew up so many containers. Ill finish my friggs 5 as I already started and do my hacking skills to 4.

I only got back from work now, so ill try to do some more scanning. I doubt anyting is left at this hour, but who knows, I might get lucky.

Edit UPDATE:

Went for exploration and it did not looked good. Sites scanned down in area, so I jumped to WH. I think I got in to some high level one as it had rats in site. Needless to say i ran away. :)
I went deeper in space and found few sites. Got 20mil in total and was very happy!

I did learned a few things again.

1. Check WH before with mighty google to find out its level. 1-3 good 4-6 stay away.
2. Hacking game... I realised that there are more power ups.. I ignored them as I though those were nothing or something bad ( I know, I am that noobish hehe ) . On top of that I properly learned the number meaning and it made it way easier to hack. So less containers blew in my face.

I came across sleeper relic or data site in low sec. I could not get it scanned more then 76%. Looks like my frigg and skills hit a sealing. Really tempted to upgrade and get better ship, but at the same time I want to see how much I can earn in this little cracker before it gets blown up. :) Its a shame Magnate got only 3 med slots, so I can put any upgrades. :(

I did missions for years, then I decided to go into PvP and other areas of space, where all people say it's fun. I tried NPC null, C2 and C5 Wormholes, some pvp in low sec and eventually began trading about an year and a half ago and guess what? Of all the activities I got hooked to trading and market manipulations...Who could have guessed?

My point is, everyone has a different interests in this game, it's good that you found yours! Who knows, you might find something even more interesting in the future.

Good point. Everyone has their own ticks. Main thing is to try something new and get out of comfort zone. Who knows what will stick.

I really really love my exploration career now. Even my mindset is different when I log in. When i was stoll missionary I would force myself to log in and just checking how much time I got and how many missions I can do. All that I was checking was my account balance. Like a job. Now I log in and just play as long as I can without even checking time. Every data site I find is like xmas morming. I just excited what's under the tree and at the same time I am checking my back if santa is standing behind me with a big lumber jack axe sexual locking his lips. It is really satisfying for me to return from dangerous environment back home with loot worth 10 times more then a bucket I fly in.

I am still learning the ropes and my next step will be do a lot more wh exploration and get in to null sec. Then I really want to start combat exploration. I am not comfortable flying something like ststratios, yet :)

Frig 5 gets you access to the tech 2 scanning ship which is more expensive but can use a cov ops cloak which is very helpful and has twice the hacking bonus and it's a role bonus so you get it at the level 1 of the tech 2 skill. So not a bad choice. I still say spend more time learning how to become better at the hacking mini game as a whole to make the T2 ship worth the extra isk.

The sister's probes are not that much isk and make sure you are using core probes. The combat probes are great for when you want to scan down another player but they gimp you for sites.

Also seriously look into the implants and rigs as well as the modules. The gravity capcitor and scope sharpener rigs are typically cheap enough to switch them out on the fly and the low level scanning hardwiring implant I think is cheap also. (might be called AR-802 iirc)

with a mobile depot you could change out mods on the fly. Then you could spare all the mids for scanning upgrades if you wanted. However I've not ever used the mobile depot so I can't tell you much about them.

Cheers.

I am working on friggs 5 right now, but after that I will need electronics upgrades 5 for covert oos, which is another 9 days. After frigg 5 I will get hacking to 4 as it will be 5 days in total.
Problem is, I might have done a bad decision on my covert oos frig choice. I went for Magnate version, but I needed to go for caldarium buzzard. Amarr one has 3 high slots, which is useless and only 4 meds.

My hacking skill as a player became way better, I blew up way less containers and managed to bring 30mil home last night after work. I learned to use numbers and all power ups. Still will need increase those hacking skills.

It's never too late to start training a different frig 5. You can stop in the middle of the one you are on now and train another. 6 month from now you'll probably have all four frig 5's trained so you'll use those skill points that you have partially into amarr frig 5 eventually. It also won't hurt to keep going the way you are going now.

My point is don't stress out about your skill points. As you have indicated already you've increased your hacking success by improving your personal skill. You seem to have learned that the bigger and / or more expensive ships are often not better. You also seem to have learned that improving your player skill is far more effective than your skill points. The only thing separating your from being an excellent internet space ship pilot is a little time. You have the right attitude imho and I think you'll do fine.

Hehe, I know I can switch and I know I can train other skill half way in. Its just my OCd thing, if I start skill, I need to finish it. :) My actual game skills got so much better in last 4 days, then ever. At least I had a decent theory knowladge, before I started my new career.

I dont know if anyone interested anymore and I know this thread became my little blog, but fudge it, might as well. :)

So today after work I decided to play a bit more. I went on my usual low sec route and it was completely scanned out and was very hot with locals. Usually they are dozy and peaceful, but I clearly sow something was going on. I came back to my base and started looking at map, find another area of low sec I could poke around.
Then I had "briliant" idea... Drop sisters probes, put normal ones and go to null sec for the first time. If I die - meh, its 2mil and I already earned that back. Checked area on the map with least death, set waypoints and off I went. Oh boy, talking about wild west. System population going from 2 to 10 in few seconds just because I flew in, then they realise its Magnate and they all feck off lol.
So after cloack trick warping and throwing some safe spots I got in to system with 1 fella in and 5 sites. Started scanning. Well... I really started shitting my pants at the point where I was holding 52mil of crap in my hull from 2 sites. HOW DO I GET BACK HOME NOW?!
Long story short: I did cloack trip up until the last system and there I got cough in Drag warp bubble. 100km from exit!!! D-scan, nothing! Microwarpdrive and gogogo to gate! One jump and I am in low sec. I cant believe I am now happy to see Low sec lol.

So I am back in home system with 148mil of loot. New experience in null sec. Was scary, but fun hehe. I want Covert ops ship even more now. I would feel so much safer in it. :)

Indeed, a covert ops cloak makes exploration and traveling a lot easier. Fitting a few warp core stabilizers is also a good idea, that might save your butt if someone manages to find you in an exploration site and points/scrams you.
If you wanna stick to low sec exploration, I'd recommend sansha space at the moment. Intact Armor Plates are worth several million isk, I've had single relic sites netting 20-30M. Using http://evemaps.dotlan.net/ to check current activity is also quite helpful, and the site also more accessible than the ingame map imho.

So I couldnt play EVE last two days as I a had some Drama crap on Monday and then spent Tuesday with OH. I got back home today and played a bit.

Today was a good day so far. Got lucky with 2 relic sites and brought back home 60mil loot in total. I cant believe it took me so long to get out from high sec. At the same time I dont understand why people say to nerf High sec. Money is crap there! Low sec FTW! 220mil earned in few days by playing a few hours in total. It would take me ages to make that in level 4s and god Forbid mining.

So as I am getting better at all this, I got a few more questions and need some advice.

1. I am still in Magnate. Its lovely little thing and I love it a lot, but I am getting at the point where I feel a bit "dickish". I had Heron pop in in to my site, while I was scanning. I knew he was in system and I knew he is coming over. So its not like I was cought with pants down. He ran away after seeing me, so I could finish my business there. Obviously I kept an eye out on everything in case he scanned me down and pin pointed me to his friends, who have bigger claws and fangs.
So I wonder if I could fix this by using Astero for my low sec exploration? I know it has feck all fire power, but it would be enough to scare off some Herons and covert ops competition. I would not look for fights, more of a "if you do stay around, I will scratch your face". If I see something nasty coming over or another Astero, I would most likely just run.
My home is pretty nice and locals not dicks, but I wonder if they will see Astero, they will have more interest in my lovely bum cheeks? Usually when people see t1 exploration frig, they just dont bother.
2. It will have to do with Astero again. I know it can do some combat sites, but can it manage to do any of low sec ones? Or is it better to use Stratios for stuff like this. Even then, what combat sites I could do with stratios?
3. Gas sites. I presume it has to do with Mining Gas. Ventures time to shine? Is it profitable and does it worth time and risk?
4. Moving my loot. I got 220mil of crap to move to jita. What would be the safest way of doing it? I presume that I am asking for trouble to move all that in magnate? Maybe doing some of the MWD+Cloack trick in busy systems like Jita and Perimeter would work? I used to use Navy Harbinger for that, but its waaay too far away at the moment.

Cheers again for all help.

You do not want to fight with the Astero, not anything tougher than a few rats. Treat it the same way you're treating your Magnate. It's a much better ship btw but a crapton more expensive than even a covops. Be nice to it.

1) The Astero is rather expensive, but a good exploration ship until you can fly T2 covops frigates. You can scare other explorers away with your drones, you could even fit a scram or two and kill them.

2) If you find a 1/10 or 2/10, those sites are doable in an Astero. Anything else, forget it, the ship is too fragile and lacks dps.

3) Venture and, once you can fly it, Prospect are good gas harvesters.

4) Depends on where the loot is located. If it's in HighSec, you could use Red Frog to ship your stuff to Jita (in that case, wait a bit more till you have around 700-900mil, they haul stuff up to 1B worth, and don't forget a collateral).
If it's in low sec, it depends on the volume... Low volume stuff can be transported in any ship with a covert ops cloak, just don't autopilot, and cloak up at each gate once you hit the warp/jump button . I prefer Covert ops transport ships, they are very fast and almost uncatchable in high/low sec, as long as you don't use autopilot... Seriously, don't use autopilot ;)
