Improving my computer

I am looking into upgrading my computer in terms of either more RAM or a new graphics card. I am not tech savvy so i don't exactly know what they do except for the basics. All i am looking for is to decrease the lag ingame. I dont care about the fancy graphics, although it'd be nice, i just want to play the game. Currently my computer is a piece of garbage, basically just a desktop for browsing the web and such.

I have 2gb of RAM and my grapics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Should i get more RAM or a new card

new graphics card would do you more good ... but more RAM wouldn't hurt either.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

RAM is cheap, and 4GB is more than enough for EVE and whatever else you're running unless you're running 5 instances of the client at once.

You are also certainly going to need a new GPU, but fortunately EVE is not exactly demanding. However, the 6150 indicates your computer is ooooooooooold...it might not even have a PCI-E bus (which means you would need to get an AGP card, which are much harder to find). This is about the only acceptable AGP card I can find, and it's pretty expensive for how **** it is (though still enough to run eve).

It also calls into question your processor...What is it?

You might be best off just buying a new computer.

To get a meaningful upgrade, you'll heve to get a new compy as mentioned. However, just about any video card in the $50 rang will be a huge improvement, and adding more ram never hurts (and is less then $20 for 2 gb). If you are on Windows XP still, your 2gb is fine. If Vista/7, definately upgrade to 4.

Here's a really good guide fro ma really good hardware site.

K, from this little titbit of info, your board should have a PCI-e slot. Be aware that it'll be ver.1.

Somewhere on this site is the minimum requirements for running Eve, so have a gander at those & pick your card accordingly.

Ram wise is fine, but what you may find is that after upgrading the GFX card, you create a new bottleneck (this manifests itself as lag or stutter).
Your new cause of Lag (or stuttering) will be the CPU so that'll require upgrading.

If it's an AMD main-board you're laughing - cheap CPU's for upgrades

If it's an Intel main-board you're stuck with Pentium 4's - no comment!

Without more info, that's about all the information I can give.

As someone else already stated, you may just be better off buying a new PC. They're cheap enough & you get the joys of a warranty if it decides to die on you What?

Choice is ultimately yours.

Do not forget that hey may buy new RAM and GPU but he needs power source which could be problem at machiune this old. My opinion is that you should buy new comp. Some low budget should be fine for EVE if you don´t want to run your EVE all max detail. The link Steve posted is nice for this btw.

I'd agree with this -- upgrading to a more powerful graphics card will assist with the lag, and more RAM is a good idea.

The justification is two-fold: first, by upgrading your graphics card, you'll likely have more on-card RAM, which will take some of the grunt work away from your motherboard. Second, more RAM means that when that card can't help anymore, the system will have an easier time coping.

I can't get rid of my darn signature!  Oh, wait....
