Ive been doing some station trading in Jita and noticed that occasionally, that someone will set a sell order up for a price that is only 0.01isk different to the buy order.

Why do peple do this? It must be a tactic I'm unaware of being a trading noob.

Its due to the mechanics when selling large volumes.

Person a has buyorder for 500isk per unit, for 50 units
person b has 75 of these units, and sets the sale price to 500isk, which is the same as the buyorder

50 items get sold, the other 25 go up as a sell order, but as person c has a buyorder for 499.99 isk per unit it looks like someone just put up a sell order .01 isk higher than buy.

hope this helps

Please Evemail me if I win.

To add to JitaGodess, the essential part is that they have a set their sell order duration to more than "Immediate", otherwise the remainder would've went back to their hangar. If you intend to sell to buy orders and don't select "Immediate" you'll also have to pay the broker's fee.
