Low sec DED sites

Hello ladies and gentleman,

My quick question is this,

I'm getting into lowsec complexes around eve to see if I can find some good drops with 5/10's and above, I've been using the Ishtar to do a couple sites, but have had some trouble with getting caught at a couple different places and dying, losing the 220 mill ship and loot that's inside. So my question is, what is a good ship to run DED's in lowsec that doesn't cost much but is still effective at running sites? Or is the ishtar the only answer?

Thanks in advance,

Given the specialized task at hand you will need a specialized ship. Those are very expensive.

Strat, Ishtar, Gila, and t3 cruisers come to mind. The more you put in the more you get out.

All that being said, you aren't going to find a cheaper alternative.

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Rookie_Lowsec_Survival_Guide (old but still has good info)

Most of the time I'm usually just passing through Low / Null Sec space unless I'm running an Expedition site. If I have business in the system, I spend a lot of time prepping it for use, basically like what's listed in the guide posted above.

Now if you're going to Low/Null Sec space by choice, then best check Star Map stats first to find a destination with low amount of activity. The same criteria should be used to plan your route. After arriving at your destination, definitely set up multiple safe spots and if someone enters the system while you're conducting your business, spam D-scan for probes and ships and warp to safe spot. Also having a cloak fitted will definitely help increase your chance of survival, especially while sitting at safe spots waiting for local to clear.

As for ships, personally I like using T3 Cruisers due to their versatility. Course this is just my opinion and I'm sure others will have more pertinent info available.

Good luck to you.

Bring a mobile depot and cloak/mwd with you. Spam dscan when there's people in local, if you see 8 probes within 2 au of you, gtfo to a pre-bookmarked safe and drop the depot, refit cloak and then sit there until you/they get bored.

Is this the recommended way to fly T3's as well -- use the mobile depot to change out the cloaking subsystem so you can change to a DPS fit?

Yes. Cargo can get tight and limit your deployment time depending on which T3 you're talking, but yes.

Any chance to kill a 5/10 in a T3D, like a Jackdaw?

Well, it's definitely an option to consider.

It will definitely take longer to complete the refit since you must also change sub-systems and scoop up the Mobil Depot before actually cloaking up. Also if the prober has max skills, they only need 4 probes to pinpoint you fairly quickly.

Depending on your safe spot locations and experience, I guess refitting T3 sub-systems and modules with a Mobil Depot could be done quickly. Just remember the longer it takes to secure the ship increases the chance of it being scanned down, locked and destroyed.

Before depots were introduced you had no option but to dock in a station for a refit. That, of course, is still an option.

However, many systems of interest lack stations. In my experience, the process of finding a combat site, traveling 1-5 jumps to get to a station, refitting, and then flying back constitutes more risk than dropping a depot and refitting on the spot. Yes, you should be quick about it -- but then, of course you should be quick about it.

If there's a station available I still usually use it, particularly if I know I'm unlikely to get camped in. It's incredibly useful to have the option of not seeking out a station though; that's what a depot is for.

Seconding this. No chance in hell. T3s can struggle with the incoming damage depending on fit and site. D3s will absolutely melt.

How do you want to clear the third room when you are webbed from 3 towers? AND your target is 50-60km away.

Playing with fits, I'm beginning to think you could pimp a Jackdaw to make it through the Caldari 5/10. Same basic idea might make it through the Serpentis 5/10. Not sure you could do the same for Blood/Sansha/Angel.

So I guess I'll just have to take it back: those things are silly if you invest in crazy fittings.

Confessor with beams in Sharpshooter mode can hit out to those distances. If fit correctly.

Jackdaw with LMLs in sharpshooter mode can hit out to those distances.

Your point?

And if you are in a T3 and struggling with the dps in a 5/10, you must be doing something wrong.

some 5/10s are pretty mean, but yeah if you sharpshooter mode while triple webbed, you're going to have a bad time.

Only way I can see a T3d doing a 5/10 is with links.

Thirding??? the no voters...

There is no way to do this (5/10) in a T3D. I fly max skilled T3Ds and I also frequently run solo 5/10 and 6/10. A 5/10 alone is not doable in a T3D and barely doable in a T3. The best ships for doing these sites are Marauders seconded by Faction BS and followed by BS hulls.

Multiple factors are stacked against you. The rooms spawn everything from sentry towers, frigates, cruisers up to battleships dealing damage. The damage is ranged as well and when webs are on you (and they will be from time to time) it is hitting for almost full value. There are also neuts to contend with. A shiny T3 or Stratios is the minimum (both are weak on DPS and cap life) thus the need for a very expensive fit and - even better links to do the sites. Even so - say you are running a Tengu or a Strat and you mess up - one mistake and you are in big trouble - probably likely to lose a very expensive ship. BS hulls are much more durable in every way and give you a bit of time to respond if you make a mistake so I recommend them. At the price of a T3 or a Strat you might as well just buy the Faction BS hull and do it right.

In a T3D one final issue will be your lack of outbound DPS projection. IF (and that is stricly hypothetical) you could find some way to sit mostly still whilst being webbed AND tank the incoming DPS long enough AND live through neuts you will STILL have to deal enough DPS at range to kill the rats. You will need sustained 500+ DPS to break the tougher ones and if you want to do the sites in a reasonable amount of time it is better to be closer to the 1000 dps range. Double the DPS means half the time spent sitting at a site in hostile space.

Given that the highest DPS T3D is a blaster fit Hecate (850ish DPS), there is no viable long range option (think 30K -60k) that will deal enough damage to kill some of the heavier rats through their reps.

So.. NO!

You will probably be dead in the first room. Im sure it would literally take hours of warping in and out to wear the rats down and stay alive in the process... But IF you do manage to live through the first two rooms - the third room will absolutely nuke your little T3D - and thats assuming someone like me doesnt hunt you down and kill you first!

Thread. . DERAILED

OP, I suggest getting to know the locals. Unless you're one of those that roams anywhere for sites. Big smile
