Will we be having a collection for the Syrian refugees driven out of thier homes, en masse, by ISIS forces?

This is probably the largest humanitarian crisis europe has faced scince World war 2.

Syria was embroiled, as it is now, in civil war well before ISIS even became a thing.

The humanitarian crisis certainaly is huge, but the largest historically was Finlands diaspora out of Karelia, and Soviet conwuest territories in WWII, to which no nation responded or cared, and which most people today are unaware of.

How and where exactly do you expect Plex for Good to affect the people fleeing Syria?

In Iceland alone, 11,000 people have offered their home as a place to stay for refugees, despite the governments 50 limit.

In Finland the prime minister has offered up his own home.

I was just thinking we could collect some money to help pay for some basic provisions for the people that need shelter.

I had a dream last night actually about winning the lottery. God told me he would help me win the lottery but i have to build some accomodation for refugees out of it. He told me if i do this i will prosper after the crisis has abated.

While it's true that the Syrian crisis - as well as attendant developments in the region, and unrelated woes throughout Africa - has caused the single largest movement of population since the post-war European upheaval, there are already several well-established grassroots aid initiatives in progress throughout Europe.

Your money would be much better spent on helping fund one of these ventures: Cal Aid, for instance.

So, basically, a 'no' to your proposal.

The problem with PLEX for good for Syrian refugees is that is a PVP problem. Other instances of Plex for good are PVE occurances.

Specially when you know Caldari States only help the struggle in between factions sending money to its own corporations to do things the said factions are all rookies who have no money or ability to enjoy them, ending up being Caldari State paying its corporations to benefit their own assets and leaving some Pharaonic Large Collidable Objects which serves to the local people no purpose. Eu... ops Amarr Empire did a much better service to its Slaves the Caldari States will ever do to its "charity subjects".

This has been asked before and answered by Falcon.

I'd support an open donation to the Red Cross or any charity CCP chooses, so rather than occasional Plex4Good drives they have ongoing options open. But to be fair, any of us can do that IRL so if they choose not to nbd. It probably does generate more publicity, and possibly larger donation surges, to run them occasionally.

Sounds like what some politicians say just before they take my money to give to their own charities to make themselves feel better... that they themselves give no money towards, or to anything, just from other peoples money. Being vague here to skirt under the political radar Blink

Not to single you out or anything, but this is exactly why CCP can't involve themselves in something so politically charged, and it's why we can't have a discussion about this here. This is a gaming forum, and political debates like this just wind people up. You have very good reasons for your comments, but they will upset people who are already upset over watching that refugee crisis unfold.

if we cant talk about it with our most intellectual internet friends where can we talk about it ?

This isn't going to go away. WE cant just bury our heads in the sand. I am fairly certain a good portion of the most intelligent people in the world play eve. I think this is one of the best places to discuss the matter.

International powers that be (Western particularly) stuck their neck out on intervention in Libya against Gaddafi, as far as they could (and exclusive to air/navy support, no boots on the ground.)

View the abstaining votes and speeches of certain Security Council states in the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, for more elucidation as to why the international community was politically unable to further involve itself in the Syrian issue in support of the revolt vs the al-Assad autocracy (before ISIS altogether).

The Arab Spring managed to sweep the north african coast of autocratic rulers that had ruled for generations, but Syria came too late in the chain, and the West could not interfere in the Syrian Revolt, though the rebels dearly needed it and hoped for it.

The West failed them in their attempt for freedom. And hence the situation is worse than ever, al-Assad still rules, and ISIS is now at the borders of a fractured nation.

Um no, even the Russians have said his downfall was inevitable. There is room in Russia for them I would think, considering their long friendly history.
