How do I keep my drones near my ship when I'm trying to have them attack from ~100km instead of flying in and attacking from <20km? Is it something simple I'm missing or doing wrong?

Right click drones in space.

"Return to Orbit"

Alternatively, R is the default hotkey.

Also I believe shift-R is the default return to drone bay hot key.

Also, F is the default "drones attack target" hot key.

Note that there is no "launch drones" hot key.

-edit-

Also, the default max drone control range is 15,000m? 20,000m?

Skills can increase how far out your drones will attack a target.

Default is 20.000m. Max w/o modules is 60.000m.

You will have to manually control them onto each target. And then stop them from attacking the next target, if you don't want them to fly away.

Set the drones to passive, and they want attack a target until you tell them to.
