Hi!

I had returned after several months to EVE and I immediately noticed that price of pirate battleships dropped by a huge margin! Why? Did it happen due to nerfs or marked fluctuations or inflating PLEX price or some other reasons?

Fozziesov changed a lot in how sov battles work, a lot of people just ratting now. Oversupply wrecked the prices.

So pirate BS are now often used in null for ratting?

pirate bs bpcs come from ratting. that said pirate BS do a lot of dps so they are mostly useful for ratting. and imo it is more a result of the blue doughnut than anything else. prices have been on a downward trend for a long time.

OK, so I am now at crossroads because I do not know what advanced ship type to train for. I think about Marauders, HACs, HICs, dictors. What can you advice to me?

More people may be ratting than before, but the escalation rate changes did most of the actual tanking of the market.

Another thing to remember is that BS right now are terrible outside of a few niche situations, so they really don't need purchasing or replacement. PvE pirate BS are pretty durable as far as goods go, so once people purchase them once, its unlikely they will have to again. Basically there is no consumption, and huge amounts of supply.

Honestly it's really terrible for people who used to make a living off exploration, as a nice BPC could net you a billion isk. Now, most of the deadspace market as well as pirate BPC prices are so low, that the entire profession around DED site finding and running is...totally not worth it.

0.0 space is a ring, and empire is the hole; hence doughnut. the blue refers to the null powers mostly being blue to each other and not shooting each other. So pretty much everyone just farms npcs all day.

So battleships received some serious nerf lately? What are more powerful and flexible ships in EVE now?

Warp speed changes kinda made BSs/BCs slow and cumbersome, the new meta leans a lot more towards cruisers and T3Ds (**** svipuls).

Pretty sure you can still make isk doing DEDs mate, just not as much maybe.

The warp speed changes effectively made them impossible to roam with, as they will go much slower than the rest of the gang. Now baltec1 has already seen this thread so I assume he is going to say I'm dead wrong and that if you just triple warp-speed rig a megathron, you get a perfectly viable ship. The latest round of warp speed rig changes where they no longer penalize your CPU actually has done a good deal for this, as with just 3 of them you warp a little faster than a cruiser.

Either way, even if you use all three rig slots so they can just keep up with a cruiser fleet, most find that they are still not worth the cost or effort they entail, and they have projection and speed issues without lots of tackle in your gang. Everything these days worth flying (by popular perception and killboard statistics) is small, fast, and projects damage extremely well against small targets.

The warp speed thing is a direct buff to small things, thus a proxy nerf to big things. The speed meta is a buff to small things, thus a proxy nerf to big things.

You are literally better off doing something else. Back in the day, we would factory farm DED sites in groups, with dedicated scanners, blops BS to bridge us around, and then refit T3s when we got to the site. This actually proved very profitable as we could clear Outer Ring and Syndicate of 10/10s in the better part of two hours. When Vindi BPC were a billion a piece, times were good. Once prices started to fall, we realized this was not worth it - in general most deadspace loot is worth half of what it was a year ago: this times the variance in drops makes it really bad for the effort you have to put in, not to mention you do occasionally get kicked out of the sites, and doing them solo in an age where recons do not show up on dscan is...scary.

Between the variance in scanning, and the variance in loot drops, and the bad loot prices, and the handling time of selling and moving loot, it is less than great income per hour. This is really a shame, as there should be lots of ways to earn a living, but....nope. There has always been variance in the profession, but that's what keeps it interesting for some, rather than incursions or AFK ratting, because the RNG keeps it interesting. You need CRAZY RNG now to beat other professions.

It works in sov space still because you have small areas where escalations are subcontracted out, and the volume is high.
