it is a sandbox. (aka the developer did not create enough content)
it is very complex.
a lot of users are dicks, who will discuss with you how important it is to kick newbies into the curbs, because they where kicked.
where some users start to whine about every single change.
EvE space is like water, without engine running, the ship will stop.
if you joined and play PvE you will be called names and mocked badly
if you mine, you will be called carebear and worse names even from the worst PvP-loosers.
the PvP-loosers will state that they are superior to you.
An environment where the most players play PvE but the PvPlers behave like they own the game and not CCP.
it is almost impossible to play eve just for 15-30 Minutes to relax.

And i could continue this on and on.
No commercial will get you more attendance. The mouth- to mouth Propaganda on the other hand is far spread.
A friend asked me about EvE.
What could i tell him?
He is a married man with limited time. He loves spaceships like me, but as said, he has less time then myself.
I can not recommend EvE, without telling him my point of view.
Even better: i am asked why *i* play EvE.

EDIT:

Think about that: You are curious and check the official Forums at CCP...
:P
Not very inviting.

pvp'ers are more superior, and do you know why? because we will shoot you and there is nothing you will do about it.

You have deemed pvp'ers more superior because you dont fight back, thats submission

The measure of your digital member says volumes about your shortcomings as a human being.

PVP with purpose is one thing. PVP for the sadistic pleasure of causing people strife... not so sure. Some people just want to PLAY a game. Not live it.

CCP Quant: Of all those who logon in Eve, 1.5% do Incursions, 13.8% PVP and 19.2% run Missions while 22.4% mine.

40.7% Join a fleet. The idea that Eve is a PVP game is false, the social fabric is in Missions and Mining.

Tell him Eve is far inferior to Elite for the purposes of quick, engaging and uncomplicated gameplay.

Say what you will about Elite, I know many of the L337 here think its crap, but with each patch it gets better and better. The PVE content there alone is already superior to Eve and the game numbers there prove it.

You previously said you were waiting for your EVE sub to expire and that you were going to play Elite. If so, why are you still here? I mean, you don't like EVE and you already think Elite is better, why are you wasting your time among people you don't like?

Also, screw "quick, engaging and uncomplicated gameplay". If one wants that, why come to EVE in the 1st place?

To everyone else, notice I didn't get an answer from the other doomsday poster I posed that question to.

Yeah, thanks for proving my point.
You have no idea how boring those primitive behavior structures of they guys like you are.

PvElers tackle any different kind of problems, even PvP (a good fight).
Those wannabee hardcore PvPlers on the other hand look only for victims and not for a good fight.

Well i got Elite Dangerous for 13 Bucks, sure i recommend that more easily. I was describing the discussions around EvE.

I repeat the question: Why should one play EvE, considering those points stated?

Ugh
Ugh, yea, why should one play quick and engaging games, when one can be bullied and offended and can have even more crap?

Why would someone PAY and play for fun?
Thats why you can kick any expensive commercial right into the bin.

Why do i still play EvE?
I am stubborn and i like to give naive people their own answers right back into their face.

So you like to waste your own time playing something you don't think of as fun.

That's fine, it's your time to waste. What isn't fine is holding a negative view of everyone else (as if they are crazy) while actually doing crazy things (playing a game you don't like).

nah i dont claim to be elite, or superior than anyone else, i was merely implying some sarcasm because thats all it deserved, ill play the game how i want to, thing is i realise its just a game and dont bother crying when i lose something, it amazes me the mails i see you pve'ers send when you get killed by smartbombers or anyone else because you think you are superior and wont get killed flying a 3bil pod in a shuttle, through lowsec.

But even so, you admit, those pricks stating this crap exist and you know them too

Again:
What would make EvE interesting?
What is the target group?
What can be done to invite more players?
Bad luck, this certain kind of PvP has even less attractivity than other PvP games like Battlefield or Starwars Battleforce.

no im nothing like code im affraid, i dont have a victim list, i dont gank, i lose expensive ships and pods all the time, i do all sorts of pve, i post with my main

i dont quite understand what the last little paragraph "You are on:" means exactly

What would make EvE attractive? - aren't we here because we find the game attractive anyway?
Plex prices? - its a non issue, supply and demand is at work here, pay a sub if you aint happy
More PvP with PvElers? - more acceptance thats pve'ers have the same risk as pvp'ers when logged on
Considering EvE as a game and not as something else like Ego-Boosting for RL-Problem ppl? - do you assume people are pirates because they have rl problems, from the mails ive seen sent to pvp'ers from pve'ers id assume the pve'er have the rl problems

Erm, no, like the game fine, CCP just needs to re-balance the rewards scheme to correct for the mistakes they started making in 2009. "Top down review" of rewards does not mean "compeltely overhaul pve". My last name isn't Fazmarai lol.

If "helping" means "turn EVE into the shallow grindy nothingness Elite is", well, no thanks. EVE shouldn't be 'inviting', it should be challenging (which is "inviting" to people who like challenges and uninviting to everyone else, as it should be).

Even that posting stuff.
Even for not being one of "those" you know some of their arguments, like they are your own.

"ad hominem" means instead working on my arguments, you try to offend me. I see that and that is why it is not working.
You are not the EvE Community, you are a single entity with a single opinion.

I did not offer any help, i asked what would make EvE interesting for more Players.
A challenge is not enough, it has to be an interesting challenge.

I consider lets play videos and twitch streams the best and honest commercials games can have.
Saying that, watching EvE is rarely action packed and exciting.

Ill answer as best i can.

"Now you sound like those wannabees again and since you can tell that you got those mails, youre story gets fishy." - What story? and what wannabees?

Why is it so important to shoot at an unarmed / unprepared PvEler instead of an NPC? - Its not important, ill shoot anyone and if they dont have guns or they chose not to fight back then why is that my problem?

What else than the feeling to "pay someone something back"? - what does that mean?

Just out of pure spite? - because i enjoy it just like you enjoy shooting npc's and min/maxing isk?

Why do you feel the spite? - i dont have spite, if you stay away from my ship then you have nothing to worry about, why would i have spite in a game made for shooting other people?

Why do you play a game if you dont agree with any of the rules?

regarding future development, I actually see alot of interesting features coming up with broad appeal, like the ability to have your very own station and trading station. I also like the new detroyers introducing some pretty interesting mechanics, just to mention two.

New game mechanics mean nothing to people who don't know the game.

As for citadels, I'll quote myself:

Quote:
Think about Citadels. Tell a friend that you can own your space station in EVE. Then tell him that it's not a place, but a interactable object in space, and you can't even see your ship, let alone your avatar, while you're docked there.

Yes, exactly what every SF fan since Babylon 5 or Deep Space 9 dreamed of: an object in space to click.

I was exaggerating. Citadels can't be clicked, they're just a background image for your spreadsheets.

The fix to the problem would be the death of eve as we know it.
Simply make it to where when you get blown up your ship appears in your home station intact, you would then have to pay a certain amount to have it repaired or were less effective for a very short while (some minor bane effect) You could even add standing reward per ship type, built into the cost of the ship so the winner would get something out of it.
Do that and you would not have keep trying to come up with ways to get people out of high sec. You would have all the PVP you might want and people would come out with gun's a blazing. More fun for everyone.
Right now, for at least newer players, eve is a game of timers...

You could even have a flag...flag selected you can only fire and be fired upon by ships with the station intact enabled, no flag pvp just like it is... What I am wonder is how many of the PVP players would turn the flag on :) I bet it would be a lot.

But I don't know if that would be Eve at all but it sure as hell would be fun.

Yeah I know..sandbox and all that.
