As for why, the only answer I can provide is "Why not?" EvE is an open game, and people can play how they wish. Just as players are free to set up protection rackets like CODE. and others, players are also free to stand up against them and fight. To date, nobody who has chosen the latter option has been organized enough to be successful, but it's not because they weren't free to try.

Yes, this. I choose the latter, I see other miners, spineless, 'carebears' you are all calling them? They've even tried to get me to pay the extortion fee to be 'safe' while mining. No thanks. I'm going to fight, but I suck, for now. I'll get better at combat, but I'm going to fail in the process, going to lose lots of ships, I'll need lots of isk, which I'll mine mine for. Having trouble with the first combat security mission I'm doing in the game.

I don't want to be a cry baby, I had my fill searching this forum yesterday and got tired of reading those posts of complaining.

Thanks for the hints to keeping myself safe. Learning curve is huge on EVE, it's easier learning Photoshop, I'll keep at it.

Go to Lowsec or WH space and ninja mine gas sites. Do this in a venture. That alone will help teach you about your surroundings while making okay isk, or maybe even decent isk for a new player and could be fun having to dodge around gatecamps, or entering into a WH, etc.

And again, you'll learn a thing or two.

Eve learning curve...

Again, leave populated hi sec space. Might I suggest the hi sec back water of khanid kingdom or solitude. Head away from major market hubs and into the less crowded spots. CODE wants kills so tends to stick to crowded space where there are targets.

Why are people playing in such a cheesy way? Attacking slow defenseless mining ships, then extorting the players for a marginal fee so it won't happen to them again? Why? Why has a virtual mafia taken over the game, "The New Order of Highsec". They aren't the only ones either.

Because high level elite players think this game should be played a certain way?

It's an open world, with many layers to it, with many ways to play. It's the reason I started playing.

Pissing off new players who are trying to farm isk only discourages them. It discourages them from paying $15 a month.

That only hurts the game, CCP loses money. If you like the game, don't troll people because you THINK the game should be played a certain way.

I lost 2 Retrievers in two days, would have lost more but I just stop mining when my assailant logs on. It's a real pain to be on edge when I'm mining trying to relax in real life, and I get trolled by some virtual gang who thinks their way of playing the game is the only way.

We're all grown ups, there's no need to be bullies.

But what do I know, I'm just a noob to this game...I'm also a hardcore PC gamer, and I have options where I can spend my money. I'd like to spend it on this game, but won't if I keep getting trolled. I'm one guy, one guy who's out spoken, and I promise my thoughts are shared by other players.

Meloddy, while I empathize with your losses and realize it can be frustrating when you first start this game, please refrain from posts like this. You will find no comfort in the forums for the type of grievances you have, as it is considered to be the essence of EVE, and I'm afraid the responses here will just further aggravate you. Please feel free to ask me in the CAS chat channel if you need help, have questions, or need assistance replacing the ships you lost.

Also, the Center currently enjoys a general lack of interest from pvp groups like CODE, as we are engaged in a wide range of activities across all security zones. Posts like yours may bring unwarranted attention to our members who reside exclusively in high sec.

Bummer. Page 2 of a GRRRRRRR Code. thread so my response will half-assed and snarky.

You found the forums. Now expand your search an additional 2 minutes to the literally dozens of threads containing effective ways to remain safe while continuing to do whatever it is you do.

Alternatively, you could write a post asking for the same info ( and possibly get even better advice ) leaving out the whining and complaining. You will find a vast majority of players will be surprisingly helpful with just a slight attitude shift.

The Code always wins because people let them. Don't be one of those people.

If you want to know why they do it, you need to understand mentality behind their actions. They do it because they can not have such behaviour IRL, since they'll get busted for it. Games are amplifiers of peoples behaviours, and if a person is an arshole IRL, he will be an arshole x10 and up in games. Why CCP do allow it in high sec is perhaps because they fell through to the whines of these asshats, how there is nothing to do in high sec, (insert tears amount) while they afraid to go anything below +5 themselves.

So as you can see, from their behaviour in game you can find that they are hidden criminals IRL but afraid of the punishment and so they carry over that fear into game by not travelling and doing stuff in anything lower than +5 since they afraid of punishment. However now, militia is punishing these type of people in high sec too. http://highsecmilitia.blogspot.co.uk/
So you have few options available, stop playing this game, take CCP to court, or join militia and have a laugh at these "gankers" type of people.

You, sir, are wrong.
On pretty much every count.
There are plenty of options that will actually work, none of yours will... except for maybe the militia thing, I don't know about that.
Shoo.

Nope. I don't gank.
However, if you can get past the propaganda and other chaff you'll find that a great many of these 'hidden criminals' actually offer some pretty good advice on how to not become their victims in various bits of the forums.

Do a little digging, you'll find it.

The presumption that they are latently bad people IRL because they choose to play the role of a villain in a game that specifically advertises being the bad guy as one of it's major selling points is pretty far off the mark though.
Yes, there are likely certain individuals for which this is true. A sweeping generalization that this is true of all of them as a result of that is just plain badthink.

Or you can not demonize and denigrate other players of this video game, and deal with the content that is highsec criminals that CCP has built into the game on purpose like an adult. You can fight the villains if you'd like, but leave the childish arm-chair psychology and personal attacks out of it.

Posts like this are better recruitment advertisements for ganker organizations than anything else. They put the ugly, toxic and bitter mindset of much of the anti-gankers on display for the world to see.

Oh, and definitely don't take CCP to court - that seems like a poor use of your free time and I am unclear why this poster suggested it.

I like how you've used word adult, yet missing the qualities of the word your self. The only toxic is your attempt in defending such behaviour in the game. May be you can inform us on why you do this? Since you have not yet contributed to the post itself.

As also being a fellow PC gamer, you of all people should damn well know that there will always be fellow players that will take advantage of game mechanics. Then again, repeating the same actions and expecting different results is the definition of insanity to some. The more successful players learn how to cope with a situation. You could try moving into mining ship that is not a freakin' eggshell with an engine or join up with a mining fleet if somebody is specifically targeting you. Even better, join a corp/alliance and go mine out in null sec or wormhole space. Sometimes those places are safer than high sec if you're in with the right crowd.

Oh, and crying that this game is hard doesn't get you points on the forums. It will get you trolled and makes you sound like you've spend to much time playing World of "Wuss-craft" from Blizzard/Activision. No 4 button combo for the win here.

No need to 'defend' behavior that is within the rules of Eve. What is less easy to defend is those who get ganked despite having all the same tools as the gankers, and many ways to avoid the gank.
