The Afk miners would quit mining. The cost of minerals and ore would sky rocket, the real miners will make more money. When the profit margins hit a certain level people will start mining at their key board.

Same reason I support CODE and have a CODE alt, the more afk miner get ganked the higher the ore prices and the healthier the belts for real miners. Also I manufacture catalysts and retrievers lol

I'm against people making isk risk free while afk. Make mining more interactive its been a painful dull process for far to long.

my opinion: It would be a major step against afk mining if the laser would break of pieces off the asteroid, which would have to be picked up (like jetcans) everytime the cycle is up, there would be a small explosion (like a popping frigate) that would spray the ore into space. when the asteroid is down to 10..20% it will completely collapse and spray or into space (not just dissappear).

Ventures would collect their ore directly and barges would use a tractorbeam.

any modifications to the yield will just shift the market and not the behavior. although I would love to see a yield+ for lowsec ore chrystals for prospects (have more highsec miners engage in lowsec)

I have no comment on mining, but I was just thinking that we should have seen some info on the next expansion by now. Usually there's at least something in F&I by this point, but nothing there, on the dev 'blogs that I've seen, or the updates page.

Na don't like the sound of that. I don't want cans involved and i hated the old loot spray mechanic when exploration first got overhauled. I want more to do but i hate looting things, the strip miner has a tractor beam built in.

I did not read all the comments.

CCP has made mention of changing mining, nothing set.

I think mining its self is fine. but we need new content. Like Comets, Ring mining, ways to mine moon goo activly, etc,

The Drill Platform Structure could be a good change for mining. The basic mechanic is good as is, though i am sure if ccp changes it they will mini game it or somehting (some suggested making it twitch based, i.e. fly around a roind and shoot it to get the ore.

Anyway. mining improvements are needed, its one of the few mechanics that has gotten 0 love in a long long time.

I'd like to see something similar to our hacking minigame, but a little slower paced.

It would force player interaction more if every n seconds you had to drill into a different ore vein in the rock, with dead-ends, branches, and small node traps that have a chance of overloading your laser if you stumble into them carelessly, forcing a cooldown and you re-locking and re-drilling.

When you exhaust a rock, you move to a new one. Higher mining skill means higher "tolerance" to avoid bad node overloads, and faster collecting on ore nodes. It would also present choices to avoid the dense bad overload nodes, or risk drilling past them to find potentially a dead-end or concentrated ore veins.

Add color codes, grey for normal nodes, green for rich nodes, blue for rare concentrations/bonus-rare-ore nodes, yellow for overload dense nodes, and red for danger nodes that will even deal damage to the ship or wipe drones, such as pockets of explosive gas/pirate boobytraps/whatever.

Have mining drones give bonuses to how long it takes to collect

Even Security Missions and Incursions demand player interaction to re-lock and prioritize targets and move from gate-to-gate, shame that Mining doesn't.

But then again, I'm preaching to the choir.
