I run lvl 4s i uae tengu:
6Hams
2 hardeners mission spacific
Med shield booster
10 ab
2 guidance compter no scripts
4 BCU

2rig
1 flare

Question is should i be using target painters instead of the MGC?

Skills mostly 5s and 4s

No, I would stick with the MGC. In fact, I would drop 1 BCU and replace with a MGE II and use the MGC with a precision script. The MGE II will bump your missile range some. I would also scrap the rigs for 2x Hydraulic Thrusters and 1x Fuel partition. You should be able to see decent DPS with about 40 to 50km range using HAM's.

Costly setup; but it has almost 900 DPS at about 40KM. If switched to javelin's, the range increases to ~72KM; but the DPS drop to 589. If switched to faction ammo, the range moves to 48KM and your DPS goes to 753.

I would probably run a pair of T2 hydraulic and a single T1 hydraulic rigs to extend your range (raw velocity is worth more than flight time), then script both of your missile guidance computers with missile precision scripts since that will give you -30% missile explosion radius and +30% missile explosion velocity (more than three T2 missile rigs). Heavy assault missiles already have fairly decent damage application, and having a higher velocity (and subsequently more range) means that you'll be able to hit targets further out while losing fewer volleys in-transit.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Personally, I'd get out of the Tengu and into a BS. Best move I ever made, and that was before HML's got nerfed. As far as PvE is concerned, Medium missiles are crap right now compaired to large guns and cruises, and that "Real men only use Scourge" shenanigans really needs to die in a horrible fire anyways 'cause using Mjolnir just plain blows. Drop that boat for a CNR and you won't be disappointed.

I pretty much agree with the above, tengus just aren't all that great. that said I'm tempted to try this fit. 13 au/s warp speed with ascendancy implants and can pretty much hit out to lock range. That said I think a mach with a MJD (or just an arty mach) would just do it better in most cases, as the dps is just better. plus you wont waste volleys due to a target dying while missiles are in flight.
