This will be my personal report of the Memorial Service for Hilen Tukoss that took place on the 26th. I will cover the content of the event and provide the speeches that were given.

I would like to start with thanking all the people who have attended the Memorial Service and honored its purpose. There have been no disruptions, rallies or signs of aggression. As the organizer of the event I could not have asked for a better outcome.

Things got hectic with all the questions and requests to join the fleet for the Memorial Service but thankfully there were people willing and able to provide assistance. I would like to give special thanks to Darius Caliente for providing a direct voice communication channel. Special thanks are also for Lucas Raholan for arranging a beautiful room where non-capsuleers could also attend the service among projections of the capsuleers.

I opened the Memorial service with the following words:

We are gathered here to hold a memorial service for Hilen Tukoss. At the same time this will be a service to remember not just Hilen Tukoss but also all of the other people who have lost their lives to improve our scientific knowledge and understanding of our universe.

What followed were 2 minutes of silence that were honored by all who attended.

After these 2 minutes of silence, the capsuleers started a single line formation for a single orbit of both outpost class structures within Site One: Antiquus. During this formation, several speeches were held. Though the length of the speeches varied, all were heartfelt. I will share each speech in additional posts to this topic. The people who held a speech were:

Jaret Victorian
Lucas Raholan
Frenjo Borkstar:
Myself
Mike Azariah
Uriel Paradisi Anteovnuecci
Valerie Valate
Morwen Lagann
Shun Makoto

After all speeches were held and the single orbit was complete, I closed the Memorial Service with the words:

Thank you all for attending this memorial service. Let us remember Hilen Tukoss in our own way and cary forth the spark that he has ignited in so many of us. Let these fireworks be the symbol of what he has done. Light up a single spark that blooms into the dark sky and ignites additional sparks that will light up the sky even more.

This was followed by a short display of fireworks

The content of each speech will follow in the next posts

Speech of Jaret Victorian:

Evening, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to speak for a moment, in honor of Dr. Hilen Tukoss.

I have never known Dr. Tukoss in person. Never met him. Never talked to him.

To me he is an inspiration, something great. Something that made a wandering no one to aspire to be more and do better. Dr. Hilen Tukoss is a great example of a person and he leaves a great legacy and message behind him.
Knowledge is borderless. It can help people, it can save people, it can unite people.

Hui hiimot, hui tietoshone, hui waruha, elaakan.

Thank you, Hilen Tukoss.

Speech of Lucas Raholan:

Today we have gathered to remember the life of Dr Hilen Tukoss, who sadly passed after a expedition into Drifter occupied Anoikis space went sour. I am not here claiming to have known the man,

Nor am I here to talk about what happened after his recovery, I'm here to pay respects to his lasting legacy, Dr Tukoss was someone who choose you seek knowledge regardless of political affiliation, he sought to advance our knowledge in a open field.

One where discoveries are shared rather than withheld, examined in public, not subverted into privacy, this is a man who was prepared to abandon his nation to achieve this goal, Some would call that the actions of a fool.

Other would call it bravery of high order, Whatever your views Dr Tukoss achieved what many can not amongst capsuleers. Something resembling cross political unity, he showed us what can be achieved when we work together rather than scuffle.

It is my hope that we may seek to honor Tukoss's legacy by continuing on with his work and ideals in the Arek'Jaalan project in the hope one day we will achieve true understanding of our cluster.
Dr Hilen Tukoss, you may not be of Amarr, but may god lead you to greater fields, may you go with his blessing.

Speech of Frenjo Borkstar:

It's because of Dr. Tukoss, that we are all here together.
We are all here, different ethnicities, races and backgrounds.
Without him, we woud most likely not have met. We would never have all come together.
And we would never have discovered what we do now.

Thank you all.

Speech of myself:

We are gathered here today at what I can only describe as the physical legacy of Hilen Tukoss. Without his dedication and tireless effort, the Arek’Jaalan project would not have taken place and this site would have never been build. Site One: Antiquus is a place where all who share the desire and interest in advancing our scientific knowledge and understanding of our universe are welcome. Race, background or upbringing does not matter and does not limit the contribution one can make.

I would never have quessed that Hilen Tukoss would have such a big impact when he contacted me regarding my offer to fund his project. The project that he has started has brought people of all races and organisations together. What came to life was a thriving community that dug into the unkown space that lay behind the wormholes and the technology that is behind it. It has been humbling and one of my proudest moments in my career as an capsuleer to be able to say that I contributed to make something like Arek’Jaalan possible.

I will remember Hilen Tukoss for his commitment and bravery. He stood for his believes and was willing to burn all bridges behind him and accept the consequenses of this decision. He devoted himsulf utterly and completely to the mission of Arek’Jaalan and I will do my best do keep his legacy alive and prospering.

Speech of Mike Azariah:

We all try to cheat death

some by clones
others by heirs
some by leaving our footprints in the sands of time

Hilens immortality is here, in our minds, out there in the archives. By adding to the wealth of knowledge he will last far longer than you or I and for that I salute him

Well done, Doctor, well done

Speech of Uriel Paradisi Anteovnuecci:

I must begin by saying that, regrettably, I never had the pleasure of meeting the good Doctor Tukoss. However, I must thank him for all he has done. The Arek'Jaalan project ignited a shining beacon for all of those in New Eden who crave knowledge and wish to expand it, regardless of their origin.

There is not much that I can say that has not already been said; however, I would pray that, wherever he has gone, he knows of what he has left behind. His legacy is one of inspiration; even without his presence, his dreams will live on through all who continue his work and the Arek'Jaalan project.

I thank you, Hilen Tukoss, for all you have done for New Eden and all of us; and I still hold the hope that, one day, I shall meet you, so that I may display my gratitude in person: whether in this life, or the next.

Thank you.

Speech of Valerie Valate:

Hello. I wanted to say a few words.

when Arek'Jaalan started, initially I wasn't part of it, but I joined when it became clear that research into other things than wormholes was appreciated. the project I worked on, described the Aphi Labyrinth, a creation of the long-defunct Takmahl Empire.

Dr. Tukoss himself, said that my write-ups of the project were the finest he'd seen but that's not important right now. what is important, was that for a time, even sworn enemies could set aside their religious differences and work together to further knowledge. so that we all could know who we are, and where we came from.

My own research shall endure as long as the universe does, immortalised here at Site One and while Hilen Tukoss may be gone, as long as this kind of co-operation continues, he would not be forgotten.

So, let his legacy be one of scientific openness. Far too many people, conceal their research, paranoid that others would pervert their findings. Others are reluctant to publish onto the IGS, for fear of ridicule, or of other consequences, for going against orthodox thinking. Let us cast such fears aside, and publish everything. what may not seem like interesting material to you, may be the puzzle piece that solves someone else's conundrum.

So, work on your presentation, I've put up a guide to how to do that, and publish all that you find.because then we'll know and knowing is half the battle.

next up is the speech of Morwen Lagann. This was in my opinion the best and most emotional speech given:

We are gathered here today to recognize and honor the memory and achievements of Hilen Tukoss.

I look out at you, and while I see some faces I remember from the early days of Arek'Jaalan, I don't recognize most of you. I don't know most of you.

But this is a good thing. It means that Arek'Jaalan is continuing to serve its purpose.

Arek'Jaalan is a Napaani phrase meaning "to make dissidence." Not dissidents, but dissidence.

Dissidence not against a state or political entity, but against the status quo, the state of things, of what we know about the universe we live in.

Arek'Jaalan is to help bring the mysteries of our world, both scientific and historical, out of the darkness and into the light.

Arek'Jaalan is to make the world a better place by teaching, and encouraging the desire to learn in others.

Arek'Jaalan is to encourage us all to question our surroundings, to not just accept that the universe is as it is.

Arek'Jaalan is to teach us to peer into the darkness, to reach out and grab hold of whatever it is that peers back.

[pause]

Hilen led by example, in this. He showed us how to do all of these things. Then, he set us loose, to show that we had learned the lessons.

All while continuing to lead by example.

When Hilen started Arek'Jaalan, I didn't know where it would go. None of us did. But we took a leap of faith and threw ourselves into the fire.

And so here we are today. At Site One, a facility built through the cooperation of so many of us of different origins and loyalties.

A facility dedicated to continuing and maintaining the mission that Hilen started several years ago when he founded Arek'Jaalan.

To Research.

To Document.

To Educate.

[pause]

Hilen, you were my friend. One of my closest. You put so much trust into me when I needed it most, when many others would not have.

To let me do the things that let you focus on the real work that helped move Arek'Jaalan forward.

I am so thankful for that trust, and for your friendship and encouragement during the time we worked together.

I would say I hope you would be proud of me, and the rest of us. But I won't.

Why?

Because I know you would be proud of all of us. Each and every one.

[pause]

I would like to close, on a similar note to the one I started on. With a Napaani saying.

Hnolai ki tuul, ti sei oni a tiu.

Honored are the dead, for their legacy guides us.

Thank you.

And the speech of Shun Makoto:

I didn't know Mr. Tukoss personally like some. Only the way people mostly know him from his public appearences and I have only begun to become associated with those that did know him and those directly inspired by him.

As a fellow Caldari I have the following to say however...
The Mountain Wind undoubtedly blessed you in life but now may the Cold Wind find you worthy, guide your spirit back to Caldari Prime and back to The Maker.

Thank you.

There is an ancient Vherokior saying,

Life is the flash of a firefly in the night.

It is the breath of the child in the winter.

It is the little shadow which runs across the grass

and loses itself in the sunset.

“Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search of our better selves.”

Thank you for the nice memorial Ms. DutchGunner.

Mr. Tukoss was truly an exploration hero of our modern times.

I'm Caroline Grace, and this is my favorite musical on the Citadel.
