Second monitor - Fullscreen / Windowed with correct resolution

Is there a way to run the game fullscreen in a second monitor or be able to use resolutions for windowed mode that fit the monitor?

I have a widescreen monitor (1920x1080) that I'd like to run the game in to get more real estate on my screen, but the only resolution available that would fit in window mode is 1650x1050. In fullscreen the game just sticks to my laptop monitor (and seems to break mission control too)

I saw that there are third-party apps that seem to help solve this, but I'm not really willing to pay $20 to install extra third-party software.
