Do you guys think it can run eve?

It'll run OK, but not on high settings.

1366x768 is kinda small for EvE though. It makes it easier for GPU and CPU, but you won't fit all you need there.

I am using that res and I know I have to reshuffle window depending on what I am doing and what security status space I am in and such.

1600x900 is better, but rarer and it still should work OK in terms of performance.

even better if you have 4 of them. For eve, multiboxing is almost mandatory.

I am happy with my 1 account / 1 character. If it's mandatory, then shame on me ;)

current gen core integrated graphics are fine

that said I'd go for a model with an SSD. I'm done with mechanical drives

Well there is this. And if you scroll down the Toshiba site list for this model you can select an SSD drive for it. Comes out to $609.99. The problem is, I have no idea how video will run with this. I'm sure there are benchmarks, but it's not always the same for every game. Otherwise that'd be the first link I'd mention. They have others on the site with mainstream brand video, but not options for the hard drive.

I'm in it for the money

Processor Graphics ‡ Intel® HD Graphics 5500

I have a surface pro with an i5 (with an even lower clock speed) and the intel hd 4000, and it works alright. anything in station is perfect, and I've run missions with it. usually have it on low settings, but sounds like the 5000 series is a good performance bump, and assume the 5500 would be even better.

also I think I'd suggest upgrading the screen to the 15.6" 1920x1080. I don't know what the 1366x768 looks like, but I've started to notice issues with pixel density with various monitors. after using my surface or phone for a while (both 1080) going to my desktop monitors (also 1080) sometimes it looks a bit fuzzy. and note the "Use coupon code JULY5OFF for an Additional 5% off" bit

I've been out of the purchasing mindset for a while now so I have no idea what is a deal and what isn't.

I often play on a Laptop Dell Latitude E6420.

It's an I5 2520M (Intel HD 3000) with 4Gb of RAM and 1366x768 resolution.
I play in low details (I've not tried full I prefer a smooth game), and it's really cunfortable (Constant 55/60 fps).
I've bought this laptop 250€ refurbished, you really don't need a high end computer to play Eve.

The only issue is the low resolution, 1366x768 is limited for eve interface, but I can deal with it.

If that's the graphics it's running then it's perfectly fine. I know first hand EVE runs fine on Intel HD. And I agree, I'd upgrade the screen too, but then that takes it over his budget. Pretty much why I mention it's hard to find something new under $750, at least to run EVE at max performance. It still will w/o the better screen, as far as putting everything at max, but just not as good on end result in comparison. imo an issue that isn't an issue. Either way it's going to max EVE well and be fairly bullet proof, provided you don't drop it from a second floor balcony.

Oh and just to note, 128gb SSD is fine size for a laptop. Later when 256gb or even 512gb SSD come down to $100 or less, it's really easy to swap it out for one of those, maybe drop the SSD as secondary on your desktop. Then just download Windows from the M$ support site, burn to DVD, install on the new drive and enter your product code, It's all a a very simple task. imo it's better to anyway, as most every computer ships with extra bloatware pre-installed. I bet 512gb will be down to around $100 next year, or pretty close to it.

I'm in it for the money

ah I missed the budget part. and I see at least one 250GB ssd for under $100 on amazon (the 500 is $160ish) http://amzn.com/B00OBRE5UE

my surface pro and my desktop have 128GB ssds. and it is very much fine. I have eve and a few steam games installed on both. space is starting to get a bit tight, but at least on a desktop it is easy to add an extra HDD (although with current prices trends I'd probably add another SSD). Speaking of that I have a bunch of other steam games installed on another drive, time to go add those to my library!

On a sidenote:
those 7200UPM vs 5400UPM, the 7200 uses more power for the faster spin, so most Laptops will use 5400.
Since 5400 are cheaper for the producer, cheap laptops come with them.

Top choice vor fast laptops are SSD, no spin.

And as already mentioned:
Yes CPU/RAM are bottlenecks, but virtual mem come from disk and textures are often load from disk.
For some 90-100 bucks, it speeds up even older machines, even if a new SATA6 SSD is connected to an older SATA port.

If you ever had one, the question will never pop up again.

As for now, most lowcost laptops will run eve, even more than one instance, however, since CCP might come with hires textures, that might change.
