Is Providence comparable to highsec?

My question is based on the idea that Providence is a gathering of people who don't have a connection. I assume so, because that's what I see happening. There's lots of individuals. Unlike goons who are all the same thing, working together.

So the difference is that people in Providence will have far more interaction with each other, because there's not a central caretaker. People will have disputes, maybe even scam eachother sometimes? I guess there is no ganking happening, of course as it's NRDS, or gankers will get purged rather quickly.

Anyway... is Providence actually comparable to empire space, when it comes to activity and living in space? From what I know, it's the only empire worth being called wuch, but I'd like to know more!

Providence is united by a few ideas and mentalities.

- Not nomadic.
- Are not exapansionistic
- Do not pin your hopes on capitals fighting.
- NRDS (Not Red Don't Shoot)
- Stubborn as hell.

There is some shearing that goes on, usually in contracts and on the markets but if you point it out to the right people these are quickly under cut to more sane prices.
We often resort to cheaper ships and even running away while shooting over our shoulders, do what ever we can to strike at the reds.
We are not like Brave were in Catch, we do not undock into any fight and we do not accept terms dictated to us, NC. were quoted recently as saying, "This is unacceptable" when we didn't behave the way they expected / wanted.
We will wait, bide our time and look for some soft spot, a Titan being moved, a POS that we can reinforce and so on.
We are riddled with carebears, this has worked to our advantage in one instance I know of where we absorbed a corporation and crushed them in carebear hugs to become a shadow of their former selves.
Fleets tend to be random, a CTA (Call To Arms) can have 80 one day, 550 the next and down to 130 the day after with no rhyme or reason.
Other than that, we tend to be a bit like the Middle East, working on favours, in seperate cells, constantly hitting back at stronger forces with guerrilla tactics and even some suicide bombing.

It is where a lot of players go to retire from the more boring coalitions, to get back into more sub-cap fighting and a more relaxed atmosphere. There are almost always some reds roaming through, so there is a huge amount of PVP to do, to the point that you can quickly feel full, fat and tired from all the fights.

Why not? What's missing? Or is it the other way round and the unity limits possibilities of gameplay?

What are you fishing for?
Awoxers? Reds provide that.
Spies? Reds provide that.
Griefers? Reds provide that.
Miner / industrial hunters? Reds provide that.

We have more than enough external attacks to unify us.

It is like those films where humans are fighting wars with each other but as soon as aliens from out of space appear they all join forces to fight against them. Providence has so many different ways reds are attacking it that we don't get bored enough to fight each other.
... and if we do lack content then we grab a worm hole and go remind the reds of their duties. P

First of all, please provide your definition of highsec, then provide your definition of nullsec, and we can see where Providence fits better.

Technically we can say that Provi is not highsec because it doesn't have CONCORD, and it's obviously true, but it's definitely not what you're asking for. We CANNOT really answer unless you define what do you mean by "highsec" (what aspects of highsec do you want to compare).

"not having connection" is kind of nonsense, people work together in highsec, lowsec, nullsec or WHs, people play solo in all 4 spaces as well. Sov requires some kind of organisation, defense fleets, intel and so on, and last time I was in Provi they have all of it.

Well that sounds good. People who shoot citizens are important to keep an empire from being stale and boring. Content providers.
Providence seems more like an empire than the goons, for that matter. NRDS is a pretty good way of running it. Everyone is welcome until you **** up. That increases diversification, which means more citizens who provide items on the market and such, which brings more opportunities for people.

Though I wonder what you meant with high prices getting corrected? Can you elaborate on that point?

The market is a bit of a strange beast.

We have everything to make everything in Null Sec, T2 Moon Goo, Worm Hole links, all the minerals, et cetera.
In theory, Providence should be creating ISK and items and circulating these all within the region, constantly growing more wealthy.
However, in reality, much of the produce is sold off at High Sec trade hubs and then we buy it all back as finished products in the volumes we want, re-selling the goods at a mark up price.
As a guide line, imports are usually +5% to +10% over Jita prices.
If someone is found to be cornering the market on a particular item and hiking the prices up, then we tend to flood the market and under cut them. That leaves them with two choices, to either buy up our stocks and try continue to sell high or drop their prices / the item.
If they keep buying, then we keep importing and selling, so they keep fuelling their own burn out and lock their liquid assets into items they can not sell without incurring a loss.

When various High Sec alliances declare war on Providence alliances, we tend to get wealthier because more people buy and sell locally and our ISK is not siphoned off in High Sec at the same rate.

Great answer! Why is the stuff being exported and reimported though? "Because no one cares about their space prospering" is a valid answer, though already answered for me. Other answers?

It's not that they don't care, it's just that it's more profitable to do so.

Providence is like China, in that we have bountiful resources, and production lines. However even with the markup, it's for the most part more profitable to export to the "first-world" i.e. high sec.

It means they don't care about Providemce and only about themselves. So, yes, they don't care about the space prospering. Worthless leeches like these should be purged for the greater good.

Quick cash and not a lot of awareness of the big picture coupled with paranoia of their stuff being locked in stations that get flipped red or POSes blown up.

"Not being aware" implies they would care, but that's unlikely. So flooding the market with items that constantly compete for lowest price would help? In a way they don't get bought up and moved out, ofc. You should purge the leechers who take your resources and use them only for themselves.

Production done locally can be cheaper to produce and yield more profits with reduced risks.
Minerals / ores can be jump freighted from one station to the next without running through a ganker's gauntlet.
A wide net of intel protects a a lot of shipping and there is less chance of a random suddenly going from neutral to red.
The main problem is diversifying enough as demand for one item is not that high. You need a lot of blue prints to spin off a wide variety of copies. As a result, the profits can be slow to gain momentuum.

So, things can be sold at Jita prices with more long term profits.
