Is it just me or does this annoy anyone else that plays? I align to POS or Station however my ship wants to automatically "level" to an imaginary horizon line. I dont quite understand why it does this and it may cost me valuable seconds when needing to re-align. Would be nice to see this removed or made optional, or someone tell me I'm overlooking something.

... If your not moving at all, your not aligned. Don't matter if your pointing right at your destination.

What annoys me even more is that the game has been coded so that one is actually off by a few degrees when trying to make an insta undock. For the perfect insta undock one must manually adjust ones direction upon undocking. Didn't used to be this way.

Yes. You are overlooking the fact that this is a fictional fluid universe space submarine game.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

It doesn't cost you any time at all.

Your ship align time is independent of the animation. It's dependent on your ship, setup, skills, augmentations, current vector, etc., but not graphics.

Common misconception

Another one that often blows people's minds: the client is a lie.

Every ship in EVE is represented in the physics engine as a sphere with a velocity vector. If the vector has a magnitude of 0, it has no direction.

Example: it takes roughly 10 minutes for a ship's velocity to round to 0 m/s after stopping (even the fastest frigate), and when this happens, the ship model will often appear to "flip" or change direction, as the client no longer knows which direction to point the ship.

This is also what allows large ships to warp sideways: only +/- 2 degrees alignment is required to warp, but the client model can appear wrong.

Then there are collision spheres, and zero spheres, etc.

Would you prefer your ship randomly spins and twists around when it comes to a complete stop? Because that would have exactly the same effect on your align time.

Who put the goat in there?

All the rolling and pitching of your ship does not effect your align time in the slightest. Your ship accelerates in the direction you tell it to go like a ball in a viscous liquid would accelerate when a constant force is applied to it. All the ship attitude changes you see are just cosmetic, fabricated locally by your client, placed there to look cool.

That said, I don't really like all ships settling to the horizontal plane, which is the ecliptic plane of the solar system. Also, its the same plane for all solar systems, and all solar systems have the same ecliptic plane. That is, they are all parallel to each other. (You can see that from the position of the stars and nebulae.)

Yeah.... who wouldve thought that reality is suspended in a computer game because coding is tough and coding reality is even tougher.....

BUT BUT BUT ITS NOT REALZ!!!Roll

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Then you're making them wrong, far enough away and if you warp early enough you don't lose any time undocking and warping, atleast, all of MY insta undocks work :P

I hate it how when you tell your ship to orbit something, it stops, turns around, and then begins to orbit. Rather than using your current direction and speed to gracefully transition into orbit.

I couldn't help but notice the resemblence between one of my favorite actors, and your character portrait. I must commend you on a design job well done.

Duh, it's because there's no gravity in space.

If there was, all the planets would fall down.

Someone needs to reread their high-school physics textbook.

New Eden isn't nice. It isn't friendly. It isn't very hospitiable. Good thing there are people here to shoot in the face.

If there is no gravity in space, then where is gravity located?
It may or may not be in space, but it is 'somewhere' effecting space. Eh?
And I'm speaking of all known space, not just mass. Mass is not gravity.
And if you could solve that age old question, I suppose you would no longer be confined by space and time any longer, provided you could manipulate it.

I have my theories on that, but as for EVE, space is full of tears.

I'm in it for the money
