Very interesting...Well, if this is a hint of things to come; in the same way that it's building on things that have just arrived, then amongst many things, I'd be curious to know the answers to these...

Is this a 'wink, wink, nudge, nudge' hint that by using 'captured' personality level performance-data, that (all) non-Sansha npc's are soon to become a whole lot harder? -- I sure hope so...

Or Serpentis only, perhaps, and that they might be the next incursion faction to hit New Eden, once Yani's takeover is complete...?

(Does this hint at a corp management overhall for the game, and a tactical 'shares' option, that works and/or is worth using?)

Is it a hint that Serpentis 'rats', and other factions might soon be tooling themselves up with the new BC's?

Will CQ's in the future allow new players to hone their 'pvp' skills in a non-consequence environment (simulator) to help them 'be bold'...?

That's scary any way you cut it...

On a side, non-RP note, it's cool too see the chronicles make their glorious return. We haven't had one since what? Before incursion?

Yani change gender? or virtually cross-dressing? Shocked

I think that top-level galactic officials have far more freedom in recustomizing their clones than we capsuleers have. A gender-change might be a quite "strange" thing in our 21-century society, but in New Eden it seems to be a clever action in Yani's case.
There are probably assasins out to kill "him" once and for all, so radical change in appereance might buy him some time to plan his return.

You know, there once was a certain bad guy who hijacked the clone of a certain Gallente admiral to crash a certain supercarrier into a certain station which kicked of that certain war.

Nah, Yani probably just wants to take back his mining operations. A direct attack on Fountain could have dire consequences for ORE, as the Serpentis Corporation is only a contractor of the Angel Cartel, probably to keep the Blood Raiders and Guristas ( I think Sansha and his minions are pretty much hated by everybody since they restarted their war on humanity) busy from attacking the Cartel's holdings in Curse and the surrounding areas. If Yani would start a attack on Fountain, he would have to deal with the probably empire-sized navy of the Angels, which could not afford to lose this vital ally. Of course,a redeployment of forces meant to protect the Angels core-area in the galactic east to the far west could lead to a invasion of Guristas, Blood Raiders or even Rogue Drones. And I'm kinda scared when I think of homicidals AIs sitting atop of old Jovian worlds.

Pre-Incursion, New Eden was more or less divided between equally-powered empires and pirate nations. But since Master Kuvakei's return, this fragile balance of powers is crumbling. I think we could compare the current political state of New Eden with Europe shortly before WW1. The leaders of the important factions probably know there will be real war, not just some skirmishes at the fringes of empire space - see the recent introduction of new battlecruisers. CCP said a few years ago that they put the empires with Empyrean Age into "War mode" and weren't quite sure about when they would pit them against each other. The day could soon come.

We capsuleers might call it super fun time.

Terrific Chronicle!

Can't wait to read more by the author. The blend of pure literary fiction with how we operate in the EVE environment was riveting.

Wonderfully deep and convoluted! Please write more of this. Great stuff

I was one of those people that don't care at all about cronichles, but I had to admit that there's a lot of content and entertainment to be had reading those.

I actually enjoyed it very much, even if (or maybe just because) it's sort of a teaser for the last expansion.

I don't like these chronicles. Too much tekst and no concrete information. Too bad I have to read them to get some idea where this game is going to.

This got my attention:
Quote:
What I need is the wherewithal to board and seize the stations. Once I have them, my possession combined with legal title and the newly-coded DED-grade station shields that will come with it

So we will be able to board and seize stations. No idea which stations (NPC null, FW territory lowsec, all of empire?).

I've always enjoyed the Chronicles that tied in-game mechanics together with story and world shaping. Hence why "All These Lives Are Fit for Ruin" is my all-time favorite Chronicle.

Sisi officially making it into EVE lore. What will they think of next?

I read the tank as an establishment to project an image of yourself (or liking) around the universe.

I'm going to go with a new level of meta gaming to hide yourself as other people in these rooms for a new form of espionage and infiltration.

Why aren't these chronicles available in-game?

Yup, Muriya Mordu, commander of Mordu's Legion Command and (Mr.) Yani Sar Arteu, one of the founders of ORE. ORE was taken over by Serpentis, now he wants it back. As part of the "theatrics", he is appearing as a she. I assume that the "theatrics" refer to using a full-blown virtual reality for the meeting instead of just having audio or text communications. However, this was necessary so that Muriya could be fed the hacked telemetry. Mordu's Legion Command may want to "patch" their own tanks for improved simulation with that tech, and they'll get another security contract, whereas Sar Arteu gets his corp back.

Wonder what happened to Orion Mashel, the hermit-CEO and another founder of ORE?

I like it alot, there are so many levels in it, especially the ending combined with the fact that the whole thing takes places virtually but the reader only knows this at the end and the participants clearly do.

Well done, now go make it real.

Very nice Chronicle. Some interesting hints toward future direction. My interpretations:

- Players will be able to plug into Tanks for 'arena' style PVP.
- WiS won't be restricted to the station you are physically located in. There will be VR spaces where you can meet other players from all over New Eden. (I'm guessing that all WiS areas outside the CQ won't be virtual, otherwise it would upset CCP's planned contraband overhaul).
- NPC ship AI may be getting a general upgrade.

Read a little too much like patch notes for my liking, but the characters were enjoyable and nice status switch at the end.

It sounds like CCP found something that will draw people to WiS... participating in arena PVP. Well done CCP. Well done.

I, for one, tremendously dislike the idea of arena-style PvP actually in-game. if people can PvP without consequences, I don't see the point of playing EVE instead of WoW.

Perhaps I misunderstand the details but non-consequential PvP is for other, weaker, more pathetic games than this.

As for the Chronicle... I think the idea of Yani showing up as a female is a pretty clear reference to all of us using alt characters with far different traits for special meetings, espionage, etc. Overall I liked it, although I was marginally confused in certain areas, partially because I have not read all of the Chronicles yet.

Can't wait for something as brutally enjoyable as the end of the world series. Please keep the Chronicles up, I love them.

As a loooong time E.E.Doc Smith fan I was thinking something like this being a virtual world thing, what with the strange personal pronoun use/change which was most definitly not accidental.

The Smith reference is to the Lensman series he wrote in the late 40's 50's. More specifically where an Arisian (I forget his name) was able to create a virtual environment for someone visiting him. So they visited him 'virtually' rather than physically (the visitor stayed in orbint around the planet). Only when this someone became mentally powerfull enough could they see through this virtual environment and physically landed on the planet.

Anyway, Smith kind of invented Space Opera, Iain M Banks is a worthy sucessor.

Kudos for the authors digging into classic SF that most people do not know exist!

Kudos for writing something that does not involve guts and gore!

+1

Don't stop!

Tedric.

P.S. Empire vs Empire wars..... think of the number of ships that will be destroyed!
