Hi there,

Sorry in advance for my english, i'm not a english-born-speaker.
Sorry in advance as well, if my topic is miss-posted, please move it to the appropriate forum if so, or tell where i can rewrite it, and erase this one.

Ok so, i'm filled with lots of ideas about an animation right now but i need some materials to create it.

First of all, i want to make sure that CCP alows such "side"-creations with their copyright materials, as long as i put credits in my future "creations".

Then, i do know TriExporter, and i do know how to export 3D Shapes, and i WAS used to re-texture them.

Now that VR++ is released, i have some trouble to re-texture the ship models in Blender, Diffuse seem to not exist anymore. For instance, i made some tests with a Vagabon Shape, managed to apply the camouflage texture but i can't apply its brown/white colour.

Is there anyone out there that is used to such manipulations and can guide me with it ?

Second issue, i managed to export a .dds file to re-create the SkyBox, but i can't manage to quite get it right, texture is really low resolution.
I tried SkyBox with Unreal Engine 4 and Blender, and in both i couldn't get a proper resolution.
Is it something to do with the export file ? The way i re-create it ?

Any help would be very appreciated. ♥

This may answer some of your questions

works also with exported gameassets so everything needed about shaders or how textures are handled should be somewhere in the source

I think, CCP state in their rules somewhere that they allow the use of artwork, screenshots, videos and such for fanart, but I am too lazy to look for it. If that legally covers ripping assets from the game, I do not know. You will also probably not get a definite answer on this from CCP because legal stuff is hard, and they probably don't want to create legal loopholes you can use to screw them in one way or another, so they tend to rather say nothing, instead of the wrong thing.

However - in the past, CCP never went and sued or banned people for using their stuff for fanart, at least not to my knowledge. I have been using game assets in the past, as have many others, and it never seemed to bother them.

As for the new textures:

The shading system has changed significantly, in order to allow for skins and potentially other ship individualisation in the future. Having a green, red, blue, and a yellow skin for a ship with the old system would mean having 4 different diffuse textures: one green, one red, one blue, one yellow.

The new "diffuse" texture contains almost only grey value and I'd think it's supposed to be multiplied with a color, depending on which skin you use. There's also this 3 color (black, grey, white) mask in the _pmdg.dds, defining which color goes where.

To me, the new system seems a lot more consistent and is actually easier to use. Just today I have made a ship SKIN shader node for blender, that doesn't require you to mess with the textures at all. Just plug the dds textures in and you are done.
