Afternoon all.

For running level 4's, what do you reckon performs better?

Given that i'm not so keen on marauders, its left to the plain vanilla battleships or Tech 3 ships.

Which of these has a better earning rate, given i'm best trained for armor tanking and lasers?

Cheers for any and all info lads.

So the T3 you would be using is a legion? Yeah I doubt that will help you very much. T3's are good for when you want to move fast through a mission, but your dps is going to lag behind a battleship.

Where are your skills at? The main thing about all the amarr ships is the EM/TH split, which limits your area of missions, and will probably lead to you needing at least some crosstraining for non sansha/blood missions.

Medium laser platforms just can't quite cut it in L4s. Yes, they can complete them, but they're never going to be competitive with large laser platforms. The reason is really pretty simple: lasers have good range but are only bonused on ships with meh mobility. The huge bump up in range from mediums to larges can't be compensated for by a more mobile, smaller hull. Thus, the Legion isn't very good in missions; it can't compete with the death sphere created by an Apocalypse or an Abaddon.

End game on lasers is going to be either a Paladin or a Nightmare. For better or for worse, there is no Tengu-like competitor in the weapon tree.

-Tengu on EM rats means going without kinetic dmg bonus, your 700 dps is down to 500, arguably worse than Legion or Loki.
-Legion gets 700 dps and 26km with imp multi, or 560 dps and 60km with Scorch.
-Loki gets 730 dps and 35km, all of it falloff, with RF EMP. Can't use Barrage, as it's exp dmg.
-Proteus is... Gallante.

There's no T3 solution for Amar rats. Get a BS.

Nightmare or paladin.

Ironically, an Ishtar does a better job than T3s here. But yeah, the point stands.

You can start with the Apoc if you are with meh cap skills and no T2 guns...
The more experienced and the better skills you have, the more competent you should be with the Abaddon over the Apoc. Range is meh without T2 pulses.

So, act accordingly till you get cross trained (caldari BS @ 4 at least, and good shield tanking) for a Nightmare as suggested, or specialized enough for the Paladin.

A T3 will not have problem completing a level 4 mission but it is hard for a T3 to compare to the Marauders or pirate battleships for mission completion times.

They can approach a level of effectiveness when fighting their native rats, mainly because they can use high native resists to max gank and min tank.

Regarding the Proteus

I use a Proteus as one of my mission ships against kin therm enemies, I also have an Ishtar and a few other ships knocking around that I use for other factions. The Ishtar is not faster than the Proteus in missions versus kin/therm enemies.

With the principle outlined above of fighting your natural enemies if you can keep a Proteus within approx 15km of its targets then it will out DPS the other T3’s.
