Nothing makes me happier than a blood soaked club and a pile of shattered pinniped skulls. Me and my friends spend countless hours comparing our collected seal pelts.

I derive great enjoyment from fleet/gang pvp, mostly because due to my work/sleep/play schedule it's fairly uncommon for me.
It's fun to work with others to knock over a sandcastle now and then, or just to catch the special gazelle who strayed from the herd.

Still a bit rough around the edges solo, but learning.

Fortunately there's no shortage of short tempered bears out there who will happily provide me with their services as practice dummies for me to learn stuff on.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

Obviously, there's a thrill that comes of winning out over other human opponents as opposed to mowing down NPC's animated by low quality AI.

Combine that with a science fiction lover's appreciation for the grim beauty of war amongst the stars, and you have your answer.

Whether it's two frigates circling each other a few kilometers apart, exchanging tiny bursts of death across the void in a frenzied dance, or a thousand ships of the line blotting out the stars with energy beams and missile trails as they conduct politics by other means at distances so great they can hardly see one another.

Well said sir.

I do it for those '**** yes' moments when a hard to pull off plan comes together and the moments where I know the player/group that just fought me/us is thinking 'what the **** just happened'.

The thrill of risk.

Oh, and killing brave now.

Honestly, it is the only changing dynamic of the game. It's the only thing that you can't anticipate what will happen, who will escalate, who will bring more than what they said, who has cloaky alts in recons. There are just so many different factors that can change the tide of a fight. Setting up baits and traps. Turning the tide of a fight in your favor by getting them to position themselves into a system that they cannot reach with capital support but we can, if they manage to still commit and escalate.

There are so many more things to PVP than just pressing F1 and F2. When you look into the aspect of generating content with less than overwhelming numbers. You calculate the risk of putting dreads, carriers, subcaps, supercaps onto structures for timers. You calculate the risk of what they will bring so you know how to properly escalate without over-risking too many assets but also having your own assets on standby ready to go. You think ahead when looking to bait someone or biting bait. Looking into what they bring on an average day and a max participation day. The guns they fit. The systems they can reach for triage/dread/super support. The number of logistics they will bring if they cant get triage support from their home. Watching to see if they preposition triage elsewhere.

There is a lot of factors that can go into PVP itself and it is generally held up by few people in the groups who watch everything, or send out scouts to help them watch stuff for real time information, while also reading on killboards and battlereports for past fights/engagements they have been in.

It is the only reason I continue to plex my accounts every month. The actual complexity of PVP itself that many people take for granted in larger groups for larger preplanned fights. I am pretty lucky and have some good people in my timezone that always have dedicated alts in certain systems around us. So it makes it really easy to keep eyes on everything all the time. So then it just goes down to other intel that is generally easier to get. Then preparing a way to get a fight from those people.

The intensity of winning a solo fight with 15% structure left.

It also happens to be the same reason I step back and do low stress parts of the game too.

Fame and fortune.

Being in any of the militias is a great chance to create a niche for yourself. Just big enough to provide the level of depth required for each role to be important, but not blobby enough to become lost among the hundreds/thousands of other pilots just doing their job; with a steady supply of familiar faces on both sides of the conflict for people to know your name once you reach a moderate level of success.

I'm still working on both though...

To test fits and ships that people say are bad. To determine if they're actually bad or if people are just dumb, whiny creatures.

Also the fighting is quite enjoyable too.

Not done any in this game yet.

But normally it's about the hunt more than the kill. A kill where it's a close call is generally more satisfying.
