Let gate keys work from inside cans

so this is mainly applicable to salvage alts and marauders.....
you've got some keys in your salvager/marauder, you keep tossing them out, so you get a small can, then the gate can't read the key from inside the can, so you fish the key out, activate the gate, put the key back in, or (if you forget) don't put the key back in, and dump it in your hangar; the next time you do that mission, you then don't have the key.

little QoL improvement here please?

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it WILL be.

While i do agree with you (i'm kind of a carebear), i'm pretty much sure the answer will be: Hamsters. Blink

Same. I agree with the OP, but not if it takes an inordinate amount of effort or time to setup or causes issues. If it can be done without giving the server an upset stomach, then it'd be cool beans.

I'll +1 it on merit, but it maybe one of those "well...tech hurdles" sort of things.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

I don't think it's a technical hurdle, the game simply needs an additional check to view the contents of a container and check if any of them are the key, rather than just verifying only that the container itself is not the key.

I don't understand this and thus can't tell if it's a good idea or not. What?

bingo, his pig not being a goat doesn't make the pig wrong, just him an idiot for shouting at his pig "WHY ARENT YOU A GOAT!" (Source)

On the off chance that you are serious let me educate you.

Many missions, portions of missions etc require a specific key to activate the gates, the bonus room in Angel Extravaganza is just one such place. These key's may not drop every time you run the mission / site so we tend to keep them in our cargo holds for future use. If you use your ship for salvage / loot it is easy to loose these keys in the mass of stuff so these players keep them in cargo containers. However if they are in a container then they will not activate the gate so the OP wants the game changed so it will recognize these keys even if they are in a container.

As stated earlier +1 if this can be done without driving the server squirrels into an overtime frenzy.

I support this idea, anything to keep my cargo hold just a little less insanely cluttered between modules/ammo/deployables is a win. Sure I could just enlarge my cargo hold window but then it would take me away from the pretty space explosions!

which is code already implemented for asset window searchs, so it should not be more than a single dev-day if the code is at all sane.
