Why would CCP need to spend any money or effort on it? Just go to Disney (since Disney owns everything) and be like yo... you dudes could use another space opera in your portfolio. We have lots of cool spaceships. You can make a movie with them for a cool 20million spacebucks. Then CCP can take the money and develop a new project, cancel it, and write off 20million.

Oh... but I really don't give a poo about player stories. Or capsuleers in general. Immortals are boring. CCP should just give the background lore to a competent writer and let them do whatever. And you know, have all the cool spaceships flying around and blowing up. Star Wars came out in 1977, and has made a bazillion bucks, and no one has even tried to do a movie with spaceship design quantity and quality anywhere near the same level. Wtf.

This just THIS CCP should hire you. no one want to watch 2 hours of douchebags scanning people and minning asteroids they should take advantage of the lore they ve been building for years.

I'm not sure there is an actor alive that has the gravitas necessary to play the part of James 315.

No.

I'm thinking Steve Buscemi

Tom Cruise. Definitely Tom Cruise.

This. The only genre where immortality is acceptable is loony tunes cartoons, and even there coyote is already stretching it..
It's like Game of Thrones with everybody killed coming back after 5 minutes- the most pointless and boring crap imaginable.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

I'm all for an Eve movie or series. As long as it doesn't exaggerate how much of a sandbox it is. Because Eve ain't nearly the sandbox it used to be.

My suggestion would be to Google Baltasar Kormakur and EVE Online... possibly throw in HBO mini series... and see where you end up.

Personally I'd like an update on if this project is still in the works.

While i appreciate the enthusiasm behind the idea, I'll vote no. I Would rather prefer the resources get invested into Eve. Supporting devs and our little game of internet spaceships.

I doubt very much that an EvE based film would be financed by CCP, more like licensed to another company. Whether any production companies think there's a movie in EvE is another question, but it wouldn't be funded by CCP for sure

I have always wondered why CCP has yet to use their CGI and Animation skills to create a video series that gave an in-depth explanation of Eve's back story, while at the same time showing the things we love about eve. Things like large scale battles, epic explosions, as well as an epic sense of humor. They could do almost anything with the series. I have watched CCP make awesome video trailers and capture great footage for events that they hold and I know that they would be capable of accomplishing such a task. This would not only provide the existing community of eve online with something else to discuss and enjoy but it could serve as a way to recruit new players into eve, by giving them a visual taste of what eve is and can be. Usually when space ships and explosions are involved you get peoples attention.

PS: Really I just want to see the 200 and some odd ships in eve clash in an inconceivably large battles, because space ships are awesome, explosions are awesome, and Eve is awesome. Now lets do the math, Awesome space ships+ Awesome explosions+ the awesome world of eve = A series that any person who loves spaceships would watch.

Or am I the only one who thinks an Eve Online Movie or Series is an great idea?

With crowd funding I don't see why this isn't possible, fans get the series they want at little to no cost to CCP with the advertisement for EVE that comes with it means increased subscriptions which in turn means more money, sounds good to me sign me up.

As I said before, and HBO mini series was announced 2 years ago and Baltasar Kormakur was on board.

The only question is whether or not the deal has fallen through, or if production is still planned.

So, make one. The tools are cheap these days. The best Eve "movies" that I've seen weren't made by CCP.
