Overheating Modules and Heat Sinks

I've heard that having extra modules, even offline modules, in your hi slots will absorb heat and act as a heat sink when overheating your weapons?

Anyone know if this is correct or how it works?

afaik it works, how it works I have no idea. but it seems an offline mod or an empty slot work pretty much the same, so generally better to leave the slot empty than put something there

basically, yes: http://jestertrek.blogspot.com.au/2011/12/guide-overheating.html

take a Harpy for example with five highslots and four turrets. on the ships FITTING screen (in the station etc), you 'should' arrange the high slots as: gun, gun, blank, gun, gun.

then, when in space, group them normally as one. the spare high slot will mean moderately less heat damage over time. enough that it may add up to a few extra cycles before burning everything out,

alternatively, you can use an offline salvager or cyno or similar, being offline it shouldn't get burned out by the guns either side.

I'm pretty sure heat 'wraps around' so to speak. Catalyst as an example: gun 2 is being heated by guns 1 and 3, 3 is heated by 2 and 4. However, gun 1 is being heated by guns 8 and 2.

Heat sinks are not just Lazor damage mods though you're right. I'm not sure if an empty slot is more effective than another module however.

If I have a fit with passive type modules, i try to have one on either side of a very commonly heated module, so my dual LSE Stabber/Scythe Fleet is going to to have the MWD flanked by the 2 LSE in the hopes of getting an extra heat cycle off if necessary.

Grrr.

That is the theory, however, I don't think I ever got wrapped damage on my modules, if I overheated 1st slot, my 2nd and 3rd one got damaged, but last one didn't.

From what I remember, doesn't EFT show you how much heat modules get from OH and how long they would likely last given there arrangement? It may not really answer your question, but it might help figure out how to arrange a setup to maximize heat management.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

I've seen that thrown around, but have yet to see anything that makes me believe it is true.

Unless I'm interpreting it wrong this actually indicates it is not true at all.

Aha, fair enough. I don't quite remember where I heard that. Another day, another lesson.
