Every new ship design seems to be 3 steps.

1.) Add more polygons, don't care where.

2.) Add a moving part when warping, even if it makes absolutely no sense.

3.) Add lots of pointy bits sticking out everywhere to make it look techy.

These steps wouldn't be so bad, however, CCP artists have made the new models look complicated and busy where a simpler approach could be taken. More polygons and extruding parts doesn't mean it's better or "up to date".

Another ship that needs attention more desperately than the Thrasher.
I have heard that people train for the Helios so they can at least hide that awful hull Lol

98% of eve makes absolutely no sense. Your point being?

And someone else said there is no friction in space so stop making them aerodynamic... Yet the ships fly more like aircraft than space ships.

IF you want accurate sensible space game, play kerbl space program.

Firetail is the best ship I've seen although some of the other ships are too scary to look at if you are flying a firetail.

New proposed model is terrible. Looks more Caldari than Minmatar. And seeing as the Thrasher was designed to support the Cyclone and based off it's hull (going from what I can remember of the lore) would the Cyclone be getting a similar terrible redesign?

If you take away the color, it looks Caldari, like the Blackbird and Jackdaw. Basically what you would expect a Caldari frigate to look like.

I thought the planar colorscribble concepting style was alright so far because it gave Caldari ships a unifying look in this redesign pass. But now what, every ship is getting this treatment?

http://i.imgur.com/9huIDZD.png

We see shape before color, wasn't that the reason given for stripping colors out of our icons?

Let's play a game. Identify the race of each form.

It's not such a sin to make Caldari and Minmatar look alike, they share blocky forms like Amarr and Gallente share curves. But. While Caldari ships tend to look geometrically handsome, Minmatar ships look pieced together with parts on hand. In the scrapyard. As if no two copies of a Minmatar hull would ever look alike.

If Min/Cal are interchangeable after stripping away color and swapping out fins, the designs are falling short. Maybe you went a bit too hectic on the Blackbird, and a bit too handsome on the Thrasher, and that's why they look similar.

Lastly, why was the silhouette of the Thrasher changed so drastically? It went from being nose-heavy to butt-heavy.

Here's the Thrasher everyone wants.

No not really lol

Image B in the picture is what most of us want for the Thrasher i think... I would want it if they went ahead with this model

But to be honest... This was fine really.

I really like the current Thrasher engines more...

I mean, you know, "everyone" was more a figure of speech. Fig b. has a strong resemblance, but the fins... you're ok with the fins looking blown forward?

We'll have to agree to disagree. You can't say it doesn't look fairly decent dank flipped upside down though.

As for "Why Thrasher?" After chatting with Commissar k8 it occurred to me that ships are being redesigned in usage order... no? Condor (Raptor/Crow), Blackbird (Falcon/Rook), skip the Vexor because **** the Ishtar, and now the Thrasher (Sabre). Then Domi. Did I forget a ship?

If that's true, I would also guess the Blackbird saw a redesign (despite the Falcon's OP status) for the Rook's sake (as part of the effort to make Combat Recons happen).

I never liked the old thrasher. Its visual design does not convey the sense of scale (271m long, it's still a big ship), but it looks small.

With the proposed thrasher design, it conveys its size a lot better, and actually looks like a gun ship.

I have to agree with the statement that it looks Caldari. But the current Thrasher does not scream "Minmatar" to me either. The distinct Minmatar ships for me are the two carriers, slasher, burst, Naglfar, Rago Titan, and breacher/hound. The bare-bone look, antennas and spikes(towers?) everywhere, patchy hulls... the current thrasher just looks like a brick. That's not minmatar.

The old Thrasher did not fulfil the minumum requirement for retractable space antennae and moving warp flaps set in the moving parts on all spaceships act of 2014 (addendum 18§74)

Thus, it is being redesigned.
