Why can't CCP have their own internal deadlines for projects and line them up to be released together? Publicly announcing "we'll make a patch every 6 months" means you are now committed, regardless of what ideas you actually have, to release a patch every 6 months, and if you miss that patch you wait for the next one to push out your feature. What if instead they say down together, hashed out their ideas, planned out how long the work would take and get to work on whatever features. CCP should announce the release date of a patch to match when the features are actually done and not announce the patch date at the start of the work.

I also agree with OP that the 6 week cycle leads to a "let's chuck this on TQ and see how it goes" attitude and this is bad for the game.

Actually, that's exactly what CCP are doing.

The release is '6 months, ish'. Far looser than the old system (before the last one)

The null-sec changes have been coming out piecemeal since last November, as a result nobody (and I mean at alliance level) really feels like taking risks when nobody knows how the changes will end up taking shape. I'd think for big changes like that it does make more sense to discuss your planned changes, put them on Sisi for testing and feedback, and then release them as a finished product.

I like that the new cycle gives them opportunity to release things as they are ready but I worry that it will lead to a poor work-culture by letting deadlines slip and / or releasing unfinished products.

Edit: I was unaware of CCPs change of plan and have just read the evenews24 article. I'm glad that CCP are moving towards packaging important features into big releases again.

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

Agreed + 1

From two expansions per year to six weeks cycles to big expansions and six weeks cycles. While not that minor sites respawing bug will be (?) patched after six weeks? Let's see how it will work in 2016 (citadels).
