Good DPS?

Hello!

So I am getting into pvp and was faced with DPS. I am trying to learn about DPS for a frigate roam and just wanted to know what is a good DPS for a frigate, destroyer, cruiser, etc?

for solo, it's pointless to focus on DPS because some fits you'll be able to break with <100 DPS and enough time and other fits you won't even be able to break with 200 DPS and unlimited time and both of those possibilities can be shoehorned onto any hull so you never know what the situation is really until you're already in teh fight. better to focus on tank or being able to disengage so that at least if you're in the fight for a minute making no progress you can bail before it turns against you

I've been doing nothing except solo pvp in faction warfare, and in my experience, while dps can be nice, it's not the final word in a fight.

Typically, dps only matters to me if I don't have enough to break my opponents tank (most often when I'm engaging a superior ship class, ie. frigate vs destroyer) or if I'm in a straight dps race (most often when I go up against a ship fitted for the same tactics (scram kiter vs scram kiter or brawler vs brawler).

Far more important is being able to effectively apply your dps, while being able to mitigate your opponent's damage in return. This is best achieved by being able to dictate the terms of engagement using smart tactics, though I'm certainly no Sun Tzu.

I've won against t2 blaster equipped ships with vastly greater dps to mine simply by fighting outside of their range and keeping them at an arms length even though all I had were meta 4 railguns. On the other hand, there were also times when I've quickly been melted by blaster ships because the fight started at close range and I couldn't gain distance fast enough.

To answer your question though, browsing the various fits available suggests that 150 dps seems to be a good benchmark, although you'd need good skills to achieve it.

For reference, the railcursus scramkiter fit I fly gets me 80 dps with my skills, and I've been enjoying a modest success with it as long as I can dictate the range in an engagement and I'm not engaging above my ship class.

While the above posts are exactly right, there still are 'ballpark' figures.

A gank Merlin or Incursus can chuck out close to 300dps in a good balanced fit with Blasters/Void.

Something scram kity like a Rocket Breacher or Rail Atron would probably be around 150 to 200dps.

And a mwd Condor with lml's would be less than 100. But he'll still kill you if you cant catch him.
