I believe all mindlinks come from storyline missions. At some point CCP introduced more storyline missions, so the ones giving the implants became more rare.

Also, the T2 command links have provided more incentive to train the link spec skills to V. People may be expecting more demand for mindlinks as a result.

Other people are willing to pay that 500 million. That's why the price is up there. HTFU

1. There is only one storyline mission that provides mindlinks: Shipyard theft.
2. Which mindlink you get is random.
3. You can get a 5% hardwiring instead of a mindlink.
4. More storyline missions were added.

I paid 9m for my first one, and I think 12m for the second one. Still have both in clones.

You do realize, if you got one, you could sell it for those 500m? So one way or another, there will be 500m less on your wallet?

I inadvertently used to get quite a few of those when I was grinding Minnie standings by running courier missions. There was a 'hub' of level 4 courier agents in metro that were in two adjacent systems, and I could grind a storyline easily every day or two just by running courier missions while watching TV IRL. The storyline seemed to preferentially give out mining links (or maybe I was just lucky, although at the time the mining links were pretty cheap). I know that they 'balanced' the courier missions to make sure you needed a larger ships and/or had to travel a bit further (the level 4s couriers at the time were often only one jump), so I don't know if it is as effective as it used to be. Also, I don't know how much the aforementioned 'dilution' of storylines as affected the occurrence of Shipyard Theft.

Odds are heavily against getting this via a mission, hence the price jumped 50x previous. If you want to factor in break even cost, the implant boosts a fully skilled, deployed Rorqual with T2 laser links by 24% yield per hulk versus a pilot without the mindlink gang boosting. You'd have to mine 2.4b worth of minerals (which you would have mined 2b worth without the mindlink in the same time frame) to break even. To a small time guy the pay back period is potentially very long, to an organized fleet of hulks killing ABCM in grav belts it's substantially faster.

Any serious organized miner setup isn't worried about that cost, for most it will be a one time investment that provides large returns.
