How about new Destroyers?

They came out with Tier 1 BCs and this is the first time I can recall that they have been touched other than the tech 2 Interdictor nerf.

Edit: Forgot about the added role bonuses... Still that was ages ago.

Flycatchers have problems of their own and don't have the fittings to deal with LMLs. Caracals fitted with AMLs are your best bet and they can be polycarboned to be just as fast as a destroyer if you really need to and are much more durable.

regardless adding another whole dessy class ship with a full rack of launcher hard points doesn't fit a niche that CCP wants. i find that quite evident since both the heretic and flycatcher are limited to just 6 launchers as well as the eris only having 4. and if they did they would just buff the flycatcher/heretic to do so.

That is not the best comparison to use as they are very clearly outclassed by the Saber the only Interdictor that fields 7 of the same weapon. Eris is a split bonused ship and the Heretic had been originally (they updated it later). These ships could easily be updated with a seventh launcher hardpoint bringing them more in line with the saber. The other reason that looking at the interdictors as a judge for numbers of weapons on normal destroyers is not the best plan is that most interdictor fits forgo many of their weapon hardpoints already for being able to double bubble. Their ability to double bubble and blockade not just one side of a gate but both is why they are unique and interesting choices for bringing into fleets, if they did not have this ability then there would be no reason to utilize them and everyone would fly the much more survivable HICs. But because of the use of double bubbles it makes the need for that 7th weapon slot unnecessary as 6 slots are the most you will have for filling with weapons on most interdictors. This is not the case for tech 1 destroyers and so a 7-8 slot missile destroyer could be a reasonable ship for CCP to create.

I read on eve 24 that tucked away in the patch notes is a little detail. Launching a bubble is an act of aggression now. You can't jump and double bubble anymore. Can anyone else confirm?

If that's true then that's the last nail in the coffin for interdictors... Hope that is not the case. I will try to check that out ASAP.

    Agreed, destroyers do seem kinda pointless! They would be good fun if you could make use of them.

    Along with this there was a "bug" reported and fixed with this change.... drones assisting a interdictor would shoot the interdictor pilot for "aggressing" himself when he launched the bubble resulting in hilarity.

    Thanks for bringing this to my attention, would have been bad to lose a dictor thinking I could still double bubble. What is the point of flying an interdictor over a HIC now? It can't even lock down both sides of a gate anymore it is paper thin and doesn't bring any DPS to a gang. Seems to me that they have lost any real point to using them. Too bad because they were an interesting element of combat before.

    Dam my post was eaten.

    When I was thinking about new up-gunned destroyers I had in mind light cruisers; we currently have heavy (aka armored) cruisers but not light cruisers.

    CT - Corvette
    FF - Frigate
    DD - Destroyer
    CL - Light Cruiser
    CA - Heavy Cruiser
    BC - Battlecruiser
    BB - Battleship

    The new destroyers would have the role of leading sub-cruiser fleets and providing range and firepower to deal with enemy destroyers in opposing sub-cruiser fleets without the cost of a full cruiser. To keep them from having more firepower than current cruisers I would limit them to using 5 (maybe 6?) high slots for weapons and have the rest strictly utility. Perhaps in a pinch they could be used to get under the guns of battleships?
