Us non carebear bears are a myth as far as some of our "contemporaries" are concerned.

We need a new animal, as 'bears' are tainted.

I choose to be known as a "CareBison" from now on.

I'm all for ganking. I like the danger and struggle that it produces by design, and it's a big factor in why I recently decided to start playing this game. People who choose to fly around in untanked, unprotected ships need to know the tradeoff they are taking, and that they are always a valid target for other players to bash and kill. But I'm not going to pretend that some fifteen-man Industrial corp I put in my crosshairs has any real potential to strike back against larger scale entities.

The size and financial strength of CODEdot is the result of an exceptional amount of metagaming by its founder. Nobody prevents the "average industrial corp" from metagaming too, but no one is entitled to resources and tactics and all of those things you think you deserve.

You have to earn it. Otherwise someone else who can metagame better than you can will come around to squash you like a bug. Learn to fight, or make allies who can fight. Being bad at the game shouldn't shield you from being creamed.

The metagame is the main game.

To be fair, gankers have had another questionable advantage. Repeated nerfs to our playstyle have forced us to band together. Industrialists pretty much get what they ask for because of the extreme number of players involved in the activity. I'm exaggerating of course, but look how the bowhead ehp was "rebalanced". CCP basically asked industrial players how much they wanted and gave it to them.

Because of this high sec predatory organizations have social and political networks in place, where as most high sec industrialists are solo and don't see a significant return on investment for organizing into larger groups.

Ok, real talk. Who is the villian here?

A. Wendy and I (through an alt of mine) who infiltrated and wardecced the corp, drove the ceo out, and then encouraged the new players in the corp (yes these are legitimate new players) to join larger corps and/or npsi groups that can help them get established in the game.

B. The corp CEO who has been in eve for about 15 months. He recruited new players intro his corp, staged mining ops, took the ore and built an orca under the guise of using it to benefit the corp. After the loss of a procurer and tristan under wardec (these were the only losses) he left corp, took the orca with him, and told the new players to fend for themselves?

Wendy decided to use New Order propaganda as a joke. Until now she has had no affiliation with the new order and I left the organization four months ago. I enjoyed the fights I had with the corp CEO, complimented him on his pilot skill and even invited him to Violet Squadron (an npsi community that I run). The response I received was "I don't play with assholes", after which he called me a "******" and left.

I'll let you guys decide.

You're the scum of the earth Evil

But seriously,
When I first started reading this thread I was expecting a lot more drama, but it seemed quite civilized. More like putting down a pet than murdering someone. Better to go ahead and put the corp down than let it flounder for a while and have it agonizingly die off.

So like, what does CODE actually do other than collect 10m isk per miner and gank anyway. I don't see how this changes hisec, and it's not really emergent gameplay since paying to be in an area is something that's been in MMOs since they started.

I mean, if you really need an elaborate reason to gank or bump people, sure, go for it. Didn't think anyone needed a reason beyond 'lulz' for fitting a catalyst and popping some hulks. But I digress, maybe griefing is also boring in hisec.

You mean besides ganking 14 trillion worth of ships and loot? If you love them, hate them or ignore them, one can't really dismiss that.

The grey-haired, balding, rotund belly children at CCP love this sort of thing.
It makes them feel like they're still in daddy's garage playing vikings and eskimos.

It's a bit more subtle than that. Whilst each part can be examined and assessed in isolation with a critical eye the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I believe this is quite deliberate and part of the genius of James 315. Think of it like the parts of an AK47.
Each part is simple to manufacture, cheap, requires no specialization, can easily be copied or replaced. There is nothing special about any one part. Yet due to the design the parts fit together to make a virtually indestructible weapon that can take any amount of punishment in hostile environments and still function, doesn't jam, can be operated by people with minimal training, is very effective, and if it does break parts can be swapped with ease. Cleverness of design makes the end product more than the sum of its parts.

The CODE ask 10 million for a permit, and for the purchaser to follow the CODE. The 10 million is irrelevant, it may as well be one ISK. The permit fee isn't passed back to CODE it is kept by the agent. The money does not fund CODE, CODE is funded by donations. CODE could not be any more public about the donations, who makes them, how much etc... just read the blog.
The purpose of the permit fee is purely to identify those individuals of a certain mindset. "I won't pay 1 ISK for a mining permit!"
It is a litmus test, a dowsing rod, a detector. It detects those who are unable to grasp that they are playing a multi player game where non consensual interaction can occur between players.
Basically there are two types of Eve players; Players who recognise that another player can interact with them in a way they don't desire and the result comes down to force of arms. These pragmatic players then recognise and adapt to their environment. They adjust their behaviour according to external stimulus - one of the basic definitions of life.
The second type of player upon experiencing undesirable interaction has a mental block towards the reality of Eve. They rationalise that their negative experience is the result of a flaw or fault that must be fixed. Hence the refusal to accept even CCP's stance of what is or isn't proper in the game. "I got ganked. CCP is wrong to allow ganking. I will complain to CCP in the hope they fix their error." A prime example of this is the original post.
This second type of player is what the permit purchase litmus test is designed to sort from the first. It is very fast and effective in producing the test results. CODE then apply force to the mentally inflexible player to either show the player the error inherent in their ideology, or swat them and make them an example to others. Quite often the player is unable to mentally reconcile their belief "I should be able to xxxxx in total safety in Eve, because I want to." with the fact that they just exploded. but but but.....

The truth is CODE perform a very valuable service to the whole Eve community. They actually have to put quite a lot of time, effort, and ISK into the process. They are doing it for the good of the whole game. Hate them if you want, but Eve would be a much poorer game for all of us if they didn't put so much time and effort it. I for one salute them for their altruistic efforts and the genius James 315, Saviour of High Sec who put this master crafted plan together for all our benefit.

When I think of CODE, I think of little drooling Idiot Savant nubs who sit around laughing while they play with themselves and drool on their t-shirts unwashed for months...every once in awhile their caregiver changes their diaper...
