As title says...

The need to manually type in your character's name EVERY TIME you want to play this game is becoming such a ball ache that I have actually stopped playing even MORE!!!

CCP: Remove this waste of time please - the "Do not ask me again" checkbox does not work.

95% of the internet users DO NOT HAVE STATIC IP's CCP - ISP would be out of usable ip's if this was the case.

Just close the launcher and re-enter your password, and voila... You enter the game without writing the character name.

INB4 Lock for ranting

Besides of all the names ive seen on this forum yours is short and simple
Imagine how boop de loo whatever rhubarb pie feels, thats like typing in an essay everytime you log in.

Oh and not all of us have to do this everytime, so you must be using a pre-update launcher or set something up weird. I havent had to type my name in since i reinstalled eve on my newest computer.

This has been a known issue since the early 1990s and has been addressed by IPv6.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

OP should try something drastic, like maybe checking the little box next to where is says, "Don't ask this again." Just a suggestion.

Considering I just built a new £4000 computer and did a completely new install of EVE i don;t see how your statement is valid.

The call for re-entering your character name is reported due to not logging in from this IP.

My point being, no one is going to be logging in via the same IP as ISP's do not generally give STATIC IP's they are mainly Dynamic IP's unless YOU pay OP for your bb connection.

IPv6 has not been fully deployed, and much of the residential network infrastructure is not IPv6 compliant.

4k of gbp and a silly check box has crushed your game mwhahaha

you should invest a few hundreds more to fix that

What? You actually expect me to read your tear and rage filled rant? Lol You're funny.

1. The bypass is already there.
2. If the bypass isn't workingm then the problem is local, and does not belong in this section of the forums.
3. Seeing as how the part of the forum where this belongs is not inundated with similar whine threads, I'm guessing this isn't a common issue. So, congratulations on achieving special snowflake status.
4. Perhaps you should file a bug report. It's far more likely to garner a positive response than rage posting.

Me thinks that most of you are missing the point here, but I could be wrong.

If OP is having the same problem I am it has nothing to do with the stupid check box that all of you are ranting about and telling her to use. At least once every 2 days I open the launcher and try to log in. Waiting right there in the box is my character name and so I type my password and press the log in button only to be told that I have not logged in from this computer before and so I must type the name of my character as a verification. The not so funny part of this for me is that I have been using this same computer and the same installation of EvE for more than a year, and the even worse part is this only started happening after the last patch was downloaded and installed. Got no idea what is going on but so far no one can even give me clue about where to look or what to do to solve it.

I have a static IP Address on my network settings of my computer and I don't have this problem (Shared Printer). Try that, maybe that can solve some issues for you.

Note: I do want to make sure you do realize that the IP address on your computer is often assigned by your router, not your ISP. For this reason, you are able to have the same IP address on many computers simultaneously without issue, as long as they are separated by network equipment (switch, router, hub) WANs are able to differentiate these same IP addresses by the IP of your equipment and its above network hierarchy. This is the reason why subnetting exists.

I just use the drop down menu to choose my character. Only clears if I restart the computer.

I think you mean more like 25%, at least as far as the EVE Online playerbase goes. But still, that's a pretty big number. I'd like the option to not have to type in my character name every time I get a new IP address. I'm willing to keep doing it for now, but if I get a dynamic IP address then I may want to change that.

That's not account security, that's crap.

On the subject: You can suppress the char question after you entered the correct password, there's a checkbox for that. However, it will still ask you every time you entered the wrong password. If you get that char name request, you can just press cancel and go back to the password enter part. The annoying part there is that it selects the username of the last successful login and not the one you want to log in with. I do not see how any of this adds any bit of account security, it is just a running the gauntlet on hot ember and glass shards.

Another stupid thing is that the launcher constantly downloads the background picture every time you open it, or that the launcher does not have a button to trigger patch checks and patch downloads without having to close and reopen it. All in all, the launcher still is a wreck of software and usability. Roll

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Because of network issues with some of my ancient hardware(required for my job so do not recommend removing it) I do have static IP addresses on everything in my network. What I do not have is a static IP address to the internet as that randomly changes over time, confirmed this with my ISP. I thought this was an issue with my set-up and I was not willing to create a post or bother the GM's over it with a support ticket. Seeing that I am not the only one having this issue and that players with static IP to the internet are having the same issue I will have to re-think that.
