well first and foremost, the abaddon is a great ship for both pve and pvp. I know what encompasses it's pve requirements so I won't go into the pvp ones... :D

Advanced weapon upgrades 4-5 makes a huge difference @_@. Tachyons are a bizitch to fit without it.
T2 turrets or bust... Literally if you want to use pulse lasers get t2 for scorch usage.
Armor rep 5, armor comps 4, hull upgrades 5, cap management and systems 5 "yes you will use this", basically all rank 1 support skills to 5. all gunnery support skills level 4 at least, amarr battleship 4-5, and navigation skills 4 "its a gold slug, the fact that it is gold doesn't make it faster..."

if you don't fit these requirements I suggest using an apocalypse until you can. Although you can get buy with meta 4. The abaddon doesn't really shine until you have proper skills to fly it.

all in all, it will take about two and a half possibly three months to properly fly it. The more time you spend the more you can expect to see it turn into the beast it is. The abaddon is really a fitting name for a battleship that strikes fear into the hearts of those who have an EM / Thermal hole. Burning through the galaxy with immense optimal range and deep scarring alpha strikes.

Something clever

Thanks very much for that.

i am loving it so far. i thought it was going to take me about 6-8 weeks to get it to the point where i can fly it well.

to my experience, the abaddon truly shines with perfect skills. I had the most fun with all gunnery support skills ('cept trajectory analysis) at 5 and t2 pulse (scorch and MF is all you'll need).

to fly it solo, you'll want to have the cap-skills at 5 (but those come handy for any ship) and armor-related skills at 4/5. although I have to say that I fitted my aba with hardeners, so the compensations skills weren't necessary.

what is worth to train is amarr BS 5, since it will increase dmg and tank by 5% and that helps a lot.

regarding t2 beams: since the aba gets no tracking bonuses, the tracking of tachyons is abyssmal. with AWU 5 you can fit them, and the EFT values come close to a NM - but the actual applied dmg is noticably less since you can't track as well.

all in all it took me 2 month to fly it well, and another one to melt thru any EM/Therm weak mission.

One more thing tho, since I fly with an repping alt, I could omit most of the tank and increase the gank as far as possible so my fitting looked like this:

highs: 8x t2 pulse
meds: 3x TC (no script), 1x cap recharger II
lows: 4x Heat sink II, 1x TE II, 2x mission specific hardeners or, if vs blood/sansha more TE IIs

again: this was with repping alt.

without:

highs: 8x t2 pulse
meds: 4x cap recharger II
lows: 1x TE II, 1x Large Blood AR, 2x specific hardeners, 3x Heat sink II

rigs: 3x CCC

The Abaddon is known for 2 things:
- ridiculous armor tank
- even more ridiculous cap use of guns

In order to play the ship to its strengths you need the skills related to the above:
- amarr bs 4
- energy management 5
- energy systems operation 5
- controlled bursts 5
- armor repping 5
- hull upgrades 5
- all armor compensation skills to 4
These skils are non-negociable. If you don't have them, the other Amarr bsses will be better for whatever job you're thinking about.

Good God, he asks what skills he should get for an abaddon (probably an indicator that he is starting out) and gets Advanced Weapon Upgrades V, T2 Guns, and told to use 3 tracking computers with no scripts.

1. You should only train stuff to 5 if everything else here is at 4.

Skills you need:
--Capacitor:
energy systems operation
energy management
controlled bursts
--Gunnery:
large lasers (whatever kind you are using)
rapid firing
surgical strike
motion prediction
there are a ton of support skills here, sure I missed some, but you should ignore the bonus to falloff.
--tanking:
repair systems
hull upgrades
--drones:
get drones to 5 (an exception)
drone interfacing
scout drone interfacing

And of course Amarr Battleship.

P.S. 3 tracking computers with no scripts are strictly worse than 1 with a range script, 1 with a tracking script, and 1 with no script. Ideally you should change them based on situation (close enemies = tracking, far away enemies = range). Also note that 2 tracking computer without scripts are better than two with one of each script.

edit: wow, the fit you gave him, in addition to 3 tracking comps with no scripts also doesn't include an armor repairer....
I know you sorta explained it, but he is clearly new and you did a terrible job explaining that. Why are you so bad Shinoe?

@Gavin:

the bolded and underlined part indicates (to me) that our esteemed OP isn't as "clearly new" as you make him look. He asks for optimization of his abaddon-skills and that's what he got (especially since he didn't tell us, what his current level of skills is):

the information that he'll want t2 pulse lasers (and to look up which skills are required to fit Mega Pulse Laser IIs is not that hard) and basically all gunnery support skills at 5 except trajectory analysis. The order in which you train these from 4 to 5 is basically up to you - apart from controlled burst, which is nice to have right from the beginning.

my cue was: controlled burst, sharpshooter, motion prediction, rapid firing, surgical strike. but I didn't rush to t2 pulse.

for fast access to t2 pulse it would be: c.burst, motion prediction (required for large pulse spec), sharpshooter, rapid firing, surgical strike.

to train cap-skills to 5 is essentially a recommendation for all and every combat-ship out there (maybe not drake, but who cares about that). That an abaddon, with no cap-usage-bonus will need optimal cap-skills is... obvious?

as well as tank: to optimize the tank, you need 3 skills at 5: mechanic, hull upgrades and repair systems. the first two are so basic, that probably every pilot has them. the compensation skills are, if you want to use passive modules, obvious as well.

and since you complain about AWU5: this is needed if you want to fit t2 tachs. as those where recommended as pvp-choice, I just wanted to point out that for pve, AWU5 isn't need since you don't want to fit those t2 tachs anyway.

again: this isn't about "what do I need to fly an abaddon" but rather "what do I need to optimize my abaddon" and this is - to me - about "what skills do I need at 5".

Regarding my fit: as with all fittings, these are suggestions. everyone is entitled to play around with scripts and such - to me, when I used that fitting for L4 missions, I found it too annoying to switch scripts, because with pulse lasers, tracking is well enough and scorch give good range. so for lazy people like me, fitting no scripts was well in about 95% of all situations v0v

and if you really don't like the idea, ignore it and take fitting 2 for solo work. worked well enough in blood-sanctums without any problems (cap stable and stuff, you know).
