Just wanted to give a positive example of why CCP is so unlike other companies. I've been apart of New Eden for some time now, and decided to introduce my fiancé to Eve. Trying to teach her the basics, and hoping she found her hook, she seemed interested, but at the same time understandably overwhelmed like the rest of us early in our journey. Then last night a GM contacted her as she was playing to see how she liked the game, if she had any questions, and gave her a few tips. I'm not sure if all GMs are tasked with contacting new subs, but it made a noticeable difference to her. I think it was her moment of, this isn't like any other games.

Just thought I'd share, what I felt was a pretty cool moment.

Great to hear and that is a good idea of CCP. Big smile

They have been doing that for years and it's indeed a nice welcome and good way to make newbies feel welcome in this harsh environment. Many actually go "someone contacted me and asked me how I'm doing, should I be scared?" and it takes a "if they type in coloured text they're official representatives, no worries" to sort that out.

Given said reactions and the questions newbies ask about ISD's coloured text in the help channels, perhaps it's an idea to somehow incorporate the ISD/GM/DEV info into the tutorial?

Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better.

I remember that when I created a cyno alt a couple years ago, I shot at CONCORD at the gate in the starter system with my noobship, purely for the fireworks and out of boredom. Suprpisingly, soon I was convoed by a GM who took interest in how I find myself in the game, do I need any help, if there are any problems, etc.

That was sort of a Shocked moment. When my main was a rookie, noone but lowsec pirates (in space) and corp recruiters (in chat) took any interest in my existence. But then again, I had enough brain power back then not to shoot at CONCORD for teh lulz.

Yep, that is pretty much how it went. I made sure to tell her the two golden rules of eve. Don't trust anyone, and never fly what you can't afford to loose. Glad to hear that mods do this in a regular basis, I think it makes a difference. Now if they could get ticket times under control lol :)

This. On my second day in I was contacted by a GM with the same question.

It really is a nice welcome and one of the many things that set EVE apart from other games.

The first day I logged in on my trial I went AFK in the newbie station for about a half hour and came back to my chat box tab flashing and had a message from GM Creator. They welcomed me to the game and had stuck around for a few minutes and realized I wasn't there, but still sent me an EVE Mail with a bunch of information for new players.

Had a profound impact on me and the way I view CCP and I still cherish the memory to this day. I even still have the chat log saved. Smile

I never was contacted by a GM in my early days. I've been paying almost 2 1/2 years now so idk if they even did that back then. The funny thing is, It was my husband who used to play Eve and got me to try it. Needless to say, I liked it..and now I'm still here and he's long since quit playing. Big smile

If I had a nickel for every time someone said women don't play eve, I'd have a bag of nickels to whack the next person who said it..

When the GM contacted me my first thoughts was "Is this a Scam?" I literately thought it was a botter trying to get my password.

My first day in EVE this fellow was handing out 10M ISK to any rookies who would duel each other to the death. There was no consequence since we'd just started the game, and 10M was a big amount.

In the fight right before mine, the rookie victor grabbed 10M and then immediately the winner and the loser of the fight said the exact same thing. Yep, somebody rolled two alts just to scam this person out of 10M ISK. Welcome to EVE!

So when a GM contacted me on my first day just moments later, I was already deep into this "trust no one" mindset (this warning was pasted all over the reddit sticky that inspired me to start a trial). I looked at the GM and thought.. are you for real? Are you another player trying to scam me? What do you really want?? And I don't want to give you my 10M ISK I just won fair and square!! And so on..

So I just said.. aah, um. Thanks for your help! I'm just fine! And then I jumped 9-10 systems running away from this invisible GM scam menace.

Yeah it was similar for me too, I had been playing all different types of mmo and was just disappointed with how selfish and solo they were, everyone just wanted to focus on levelling up and grinding that's it.

I was never into spaceships or anything like that (love them now) but after exhausting all my options I thought I'd give Eve a go. I got contacted by a gm which was a nice touch and then a day or two later I had a player private message me just because I was new telling me he wants more players to stick around and added me to a mini chat room he made which kept me going for a long time.

Don't get me wrong I've kept my subscription going and have gone through some massive binge sessions to not playing for a week or 2 but I know I don't want to stop playing.

Currently I have no corp so thinking of trying to join brave or someone big, this is more information than anyone cares about but it's my first forum post haha Big smile
