As someone that's spent a decent chunk of his Eve career being exactly this kind of bastard, I would like to point out that scanning sites and finding people in them with d-scan is often faster than actual combat probing.

You won't necessarily land right on top of them like you would with a combat probe result, sure, but it's a Venture; you can pop 'em almost as fast using a Cat with rails and yellow ammo as you can with the full-power blaster setup, damned near instant either way.

To the Op:
If you want to be sneaky and hunt ventures and relic/hacking covert op ships, then get yourself into a SB, such as a nemesis. Fit dual scams and rockets/guns in the highs and go to town. They wont see you coming and when you uncloak its close to an insta lock. Be careful of the ventures drones - but most folk mining in a venture are newbees and should be easy picking.

For best effect, scan down the cosmic sigs and bm their locations beforehand. That way, they wont see your probes and will have no warning of you coming at all. Look for ships with sister probes out. That is frequently a sign that they have a sister probe launcher which can be sold for about 30mil isk or so, which is a nice chunk of change for a newbee.
