Hi guys o/

So I threw together a little spreadsheet earlier to do some calculations and estimates on whether Aoedes are a worthwhile investment. I had posted a thread earlier about this over in Science and Industry.

Thing is, after running the chart, I came to this:

Mining   | m3/hour | Yield | Upgrade %
Standard | 205,124 | 4,032 | 0%
Highwall | 215,502 | 4,236 | 4.81573256860725%
w/ Michi | 226,185 | 4,446 | 9.31140438136923%
w/ Aoede | 230,459 | 4,530 | 10.99327863090615%

So doing some simple math we can see that lasers with tech 2 upgrades equals 205,124 m3 per hour mined. With Highwall and Michi, which should bump it up by 10%, we only receive 9.31140438136923%. That is not 10%.

Similarly when adding two Aoede upgrades, instead of receiving 2%, we only get 1.85455981324227%. This gets even worse when we take all the implants and the mining upgrades together, and come out to only 10.99%. That's more than a whole percent less than the upgrades we are installing altogether (12%)! That seems to be reminiscent of the stacking penalty problem, which states:

1 100.0%
2 86.9%
3 57.1%
4 28.3%
5 10.6%
6 3.0%

Not quite even the whole value of the stacking penalty. That being said, mining laser upgrades don't have stacking penalties (no negative number next to the upgrade value) and neither do implants.

So here is the question:

So what's going on here?

Oh. All these percentages modify the part that isn't done, and/or accounted for. The way the world uses percentages doesn't infiltrate our dev's logical processes. To further investigate this phenomena applying scrutiny to the unusual amount of empty Jaeger bottles floating around the Icelandic seacoast may be in order. (You didn't get that from me!)

There just isn't anything that can be said!

Wait, I talked with some guys and we worked it out from a different perspective.

Each laser needs to be calcuated on its own, and rounding needs to be effectively removed for larger ores.

If one unit of a rock is 16m3, let's examine the following:

Upgrade     Yield    / by Ore   Percentage
Standard    1,344    84.00      100.00%
Highwall    1,412    88.00      4.55%
Michi       1,482    92.00      4.35%
Aoede       1,510    94.00      2.13%

Ore Size:    16

Total upgrade: 10.00%

WHAT

That means you actually only see a 10% upgrade for mining 16m3 ore. :( This is getting worse the deeper I delve.

Run you calculations with Veldspar. 16 is not always a good number to try and divide by. Where 0.1 will work with any number Bo matter how large.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.
